Galion Fire on Gleddale
At 8:02 p.m. Galion Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 16 Gleddale Blvd. En-route they were notified that someone was trapped inside.
Upon arrival there was heavy smoke coming from the residence and an off-duty firefighter on the scene said that one of the residents told him that the 21-year-old was trapped inside the garage and another resident was trying to break the windows to get him out.
Two firefighters on Medic 110 attempted to break through the garage door, but were impeded by a large amount of personal items stored in the garage.
The fire was extinguished in the southwest corner of the garage. Three firefighters made entry into the residence to search for the victim and were unable to locate him due to heavy smoke and a large amount of clutter in the home. A ppv fan was set up at the front door of the residence and another attempt to locate the victim was made.
The firefighters went into the bedroom and located the south side door that connected to the garage, but was blocked by clutter. After forcing open the door the victim was found in the garage laying face down and unresponsive.
Firefighters took him outside and resuscitation was attempted. He was transported to Galion Hospital. He was later transported to OSU Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
The fire is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office. The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
