Lady Scots win two of four games last week

A five-run sec­ond inning proved costly to the High­land Lady Scots last Mon­day in a 6–5 loss to River Valley.

The host Vikings took a 5–1 lead after two thanks to that offen­sive explo­sion. High­land got three in the third to close within one, but could not catch up to their opponents.

River Val­ley scored once in the fourth to take a 6–4 lead before the Scots ended the game’s scor­ing with a run in the fifth.

Cassie Brown struck out two and walked the same num­ber while sur­ren­der­ing nine hits, as she suf­fered the loss.

High­land fin­ished with seven hits, includ­ing dou­bles by Kenzi Rhodes and Katie John­son. Those two and Brown also stole bases for the Scots.

On Wednes­day, the Scots rebounded to top Ridgedale 10–3. Three runs in the first inning and five in the third gave High­land an 8–0 lead they would not relinquish.

Shayla Pierce struck out four and walked two to pick up the win. Rhodes smashed a homer for the Scots, while Brown had a triple. Car­rie Wright, Car­ley Gahm and Jessie Stew­art all had mul­ti­ple hits in the game.

On Sat­ur­day, High­land split a dou­ble­header with East Knox. They dom­i­nated the first game, win­ning 12–1. The Scots scored 10 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.

Pierce struck out four and walked one to get the win. She scat­tered five hits in the game.

High­land got 10 hits offen­sively. Rhodes and John­son both cracked home runs, while John­son and Cha­sity Woody added dou­bles. Both Brown and Stew­art had multiple-hit games.

In the sec­ond game, the Bull­dogs took a 7–4 win. High­land led 2–1 after two innings, but East Knox scored four times in the third to take a three-run lead.

High­land closed within a 5–4 mar­gin in the fourth inning, but their oppo­nents scored twice in the fifth to clinch the win.

Pierce and Brown com­bined to strike out four and walk two. Brown, who entered the game in the fourth in relief, took the loss.

Brown had a dou­ble for the Scots, who fin­ished with six hits. Both Rhodes and John­son had mul­ti­ple hits in the game.
