Lady Scots win two of four games last week

A five-run second inning proved costly to the Highland Lady Scots last Monday in a 6–5 loss to River Valley.
The host Vikings took a 5–1 lead after two thanks to that offensive explosion. Highland got three in the third to close within one, but could not catch up to their opponents.
River Valley scored once in the fourth to take a 6–4 lead before the Scots ended the game’s scoring with a run in the fifth.
Cassie Brown struck out two and walked the same number while surrendering nine hits, as she suffered the loss.
Highland finished with seven hits, including doubles by Kenzi Rhodes and Katie Johnson. Those two and Brown also stole bases for the Scots.
On Wednesday, the Scots rebounded to top Ridgedale 10–3. Three runs in the first inning and five in the third gave Highland an 8–0 lead they would not relinquish.
Shayla Pierce struck out four and walked two to pick up the win. Rhodes smashed a homer for the Scots, while Brown had a triple. Carrie Wright, Carley Gahm and Jessie Stewart all had multiple hits in the game.
On Saturday, Highland split a doubleheader with East Knox. They dominated the first game, winning 12–1. The Scots scored 10 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
Pierce struck out four and walked one to get the win. She scattered five hits in the game.
Highland got 10 hits offensively. Rhodes and Johnson both cracked home runs, while Johnson and Chasity Woody added doubles. Both Brown and Stewart had multiple-hit games.
In the second game, the Bulldogs took a 7–4 win. Highland led 2–1 after two innings, but East Knox scored four times in the third to take a three-run lead.
Highland closed within a 5–4 margin in the fourth inning, but their opponents scored twice in the fifth to clinch the win.
Pierce and Brown combined to strike out four and walk two. Brown, who entered the game in the fourth in relief, took the loss.
Brown had a double for the Scots, who finished with six hits. Both Rhodes and Johnson had multiple hits in the game.
