Soil and Water District scholarships available

The Mor­row Soil and Water Con­ser­va­tion Dis­trict is offer­ing two schol­ar­ships to high school seniors in Mor­row County.

Don McGin­nis Memo­r­ial Scholarship

The Mor­row Soil and Water Con­ser­va­tion Dis­trict in coop­er­a­tion with the McGin­nis fam­ily, has made avail­able an annual $500 memo­r­ial schol­ar­ship for Mor­row County high school seniors. The appli­cant must be a senior at one of the five Mor­row County High Schools enter­ing as a fresh­man at a two or four year accred­ited col­lege pur­su­ing an Envi­ron­men­tal or Agri­cul­tural course of study. Appli­ca­tions, which are avail­able at the Mor­row SWCD Office, are due in by Fri­day, April 27, 2012 and the recip­i­ent will be announced the week of May 7, 2012.

Steve Ruhl Memo­r­ial Scholarship

In honor of Steve Ruhl, for­mer OSU Exten­sion Agri­cul­tural and Nat­ural Resources Agent, the Mor­row Soil and Water Con­ser­va­tion Dis­trict has devel­oped a $500 con­tin­u­ing schol­ar­ship for col­lege stu­dents. Cri­te­ria to be eli­gi­ble for the schol­ar­ship are as fol­lows: 1) Appli­cant and par­ents must be res­i­dents of Mor­row County, Ohio; 2) Appli­cant must be a full-time col­lege stu­dent enter­ing the sec­ond year of an Asso­ciate Pro­gram, a Junior or Senior in a Bac­calau­re­ate Pro­gram, or in grad­u­ate school; 3) Appli­cant must be main­tain­ing a 2.5 grade point aver­age in a 4.0 scale; 4) Appli­cants will be judged on GPA, appli­ca­tion of major course of study to envi­ron­men­tal issues, agri­cul­ture, or edu­ca­tion, ref­er­ences, and lead­er­ship poten­tial; 5) Appli­cant may not have been the recip­i­ent of a pre­vi­ous Mor­row SWCD schol­ar­ship. Appli­ca­tion forms, along with offi­cial col­lege grade tran­scripts and three let­ters of ref­er­ence must be com­pleted and returned by April 27, 2012 to the Mor­row SWCD Office.

Steve was a won­der­ful friend to every­one in the Mor­row County agri­cul­ture com­mu­nity. We are all very grate­ful for the assis­tance Steve pro­vided for the ben­e­fit of agri­cul­ture in Mor­row County. The Mor­row SWCD hopes that many young stu­dents will reap the ben­e­fits from Steve’s legacy.
