Lady Scots see season end
By ROB HAMILTON
Highland’s first playoff game was a definite success, as they topped Columbus East 34–0 in a game shortened to five innings Wednesday.
The Scots scored 12 in the first inning and didn’t look back. Winning pitcher Shayla Pierce and Cassie Brown combined to strike out six and walk two.
Offensively, Highland had a huge game. McKenzi Rhodes had a grand slam homer and two doubles, while Katie Johnson added a solo home run and had multiple hits.
Brown added a triple and double, while Pierce, Mikayla Robinson and Hailey Moore all cracked doubles.
Unfortunately for Highland, they would lose the next evening to Big Walnut by a 5–4 margin to end their tournament run.
Earlier, on last Monday, the Scots took a 10–0 five-inning win over Buckeye Valley. Highland led 4–0 entering the bottom of the fifth, where they scored six times to end the game.
Brown held the Barons to two hits as she struck out four in the game.
Offensively, the Scots mustered nine hits, with both Brown and Stewart having doubles. Stewart also had multiple hits in the contest.
