Lady Scots win two league games

High­land blasted North Union in soft­ball Mon­day by a 17–3 mar­gin in a game short­ened to five innings due to the run rule.

The host Scots put up six runs in the first inning, four in the sec­ond and six in the third to take an insur­mount­able lead in the contest.

High­land fin­ished with 16 hits in the game, with Cassie Brown, Kenzi Rhodes, Jessie Stew­art and Megan Davis all hav­ing mul­ti­ple hits. Brown, Rhodes and John­son, as well as Shayla Pierce and Hai­ley Moore, all had dou­bles in the contest.

Pierce claimed the win on the mound, as she struck out four, walked three and scat­tered four hits.

After los­ing to Mount Gilead on Wednes­day, the Scots rebounded with an 8–3 win over Elgin on Friday.

Elgin led 3–0 mid­way through the third inning, but the Scots tied the game with three in the bot­tom of the frame. They would go ahead with a score in the fourth and then blew the game open with four seventh-inning runs.

Pierce took the win, giv­ing up four hits and strik­ing out four. Brown, Rhodes and John­son all hit two dou­bles in the game, as High­land mus­tered 10 hits. Stew­art added a double.
