Morrow County man killed in late Saturday crash

Revised Tues­day 12 p.m. — The Ohio State High­way Patrol is cur­rently inves­ti­gat­ing a fatal traf­fic crash that occurred at 10:59 p.m. on May 12, 2012. The crash occurred on County Road 29, approx­i­mately .2 mile west of County Road 20 in North Bloom­field Town­ship in Mor­row County.

The Patrol reports that Bran­dyn Vandyke, 21, of Town­ship Road 38, Galion, sus­tained fatal injuries while dri­ving a 2005 Chevro­let Cav­a­lier, east­bound on County Road 29. Vandyke drove off the right side of the road, over­cor­rected and drove off the left side of the road. The Cav­a­lier struck a guardrail, small trees, over­turned and struck a pile of bricks. Vandyke was ejected into some brush and struck a tree.

Mor­row County Sher­iff Steve Bren­ne­man said Deputy Brian New­some and his K-9 unit were part of a search Sat­ur­day night for Vandyke after the acci­dent. Offi­cers on foot, a heli­copter with a heat-sensitive cam­era as well as a dive team check­ing creeks searched for hours and could not find Vandyke. The search was called off in the early morn­ing hours.

Fam­ily and friends resumed the search at day­light and report­edly found Vandyke in a grove of trees on CR 29, some dis­tance from the vehicle.

The Patrol said alco­hol is sus­pected as a fac­tor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
