Spring Festival Breakfast this weekend at State Park

The 2012 sea­son at the Mt. Gilead State Park kicks off this week­end with the Spring Fes­ti­val Break­fast will be served on Sat­ur­day and Sun­day from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a,m. The VIPs will have pan­cakes, sausage, eggs your way, bis­cuits and gravy, juice, cof­fee and hot choco­late ready in Shel­ter #1.

There will be a wel­come bon fire and gath­er­ing on Fri­day evening and enter­tain­ment dur­ing the day on Sat­ur­day. Every­one is invited to bring veg­eta­bles for the spring soup that will be served later in the day. The Nature Cen­ter will be open and a wild­flower walk will be held in the after­noon. There will also be ramp soup and vio­let jelly to taste.

Sat­ur­day is also the day that the Glean­ers and sev­eral 4-H clubs will be work­ing to clean­ing up the park and improve some of the areas for Join­ing Hands Day.

A big thank you goes to Darl Tin­gley for putting slid­ing doors on the shelves in the Nature Cen­ter. This will pro­tect some of the ani­mal mounts that are on dis­play. New this year is a young bad­ger that was obtained from a Mor­row County trap line.

“WEE” Dis­cov­er­ers remained inside Shel­ter #1 last week because of the rain, but they hap­pily sorted and planted seeds and took home a friendly bee seed mat from Linda Harper of the Bee Con­ser­vancy. This week they will look at dif­fer­ent green shades of green and invent their own col­ors with fingerpaint.

Mor­row County sec­ond graders will come to the park on May 8 for their annual Earth Day. Twenty classes and pre­sen­ters will have short ses­sions and The Ohio Bird Sanc­tu­ary will have a noon program.
