Spring Festival Breakfast this weekend at State Park
From MARILYN WEILER –
The 2012 season at the Mt. Gilead State Park kicks off this weekend with the Spring Festival Breakfast will be served on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a,m. The VIPs will have pancakes, sausage, eggs your way, biscuits and gravy, juice, coffee and hot chocolate ready in Shelter #1.
There will be a welcome bon fire and gathering on Friday evening and entertainment during the day on Saturday. Everyone is invited to bring vegetables for the spring soup that will be served later in the day. The Nature Center will be open and a wildflower walk will be held in the afternoon. There will also be ramp soup and violet jelly to taste.
Saturday is also the day that the Gleaners and several 4-H clubs will be working to cleaning up the park and improve some of the areas for Joining Hands Day.
A big thank you goes to Darl Tingley for putting sliding doors on the shelves in the Nature Center. This will protect some of the animal mounts that are on display. New this year is a young badger that was obtained from a Morrow County trap line.
“WEE” Discoverers remained inside Shelter #1 last week because of the rain, but they happily sorted and planted seeds and took home a friendly bee seed mat from Linda Harper of the Bee Conservancy. This week they will look at different green shades of green and invent their own colors with fingerpaint.
Morrow County second graders will come to the park on May 8 for their annual Earth Day. Twenty classes and presenters will have short sessions and The Ohio Bird Sanctuary will have a noon program.
