By EVELYN LONG -

The Relay for Life of Morrow County Committee and team captains are asking local merchants and restaurants to help support Relay for Life of Morrow County on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 and to show their support throughout the week of July 9 by helping the committee “Paint the County Purple.” Merchants and restaurants are being asked to commit to donating ten per cent of their July 11 sales to the Amer-can Cancer Society and to decide the hours the promotion will be in effect.

Relay for Life of Morrow County will take place Friday, July 27, at the Mount Gilead High school track with almost 30 teams and 250 participants. This community fund raising effort in the final days leading up to Relay will generate new support for the American Cancer Society, as well as raise awareness and enthusiasm for the event.

The involvement of your business with the American Cancer Society is a positive promotional opportunity, positioning you as a concerned corporate citizen actively supporting the battle against cancer. For merchants and restaurants who commit to donating ten per cent of their July 11 sales, the Relay for Life committee will –

- List your business on the Morrow Relay website at www.relayforlife. org/morrow on our Facebook page and in our event program

- List your business in the newspaper edition the week prior, encouraging our communities support you by dining and/or shopping at your business on July 11th.

- Provide you with a yard sign, poster and purple ribbon to display.

The committee is also asking that participating businesses showcase their support of the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life of Morrow County throughout the week of July 9th and leading up to the Relay event on July 27 by taking part in the efforts to “Paint the County Purple.” Possibilities include–

- Purple place mats or napkins

- A purple dessert or beverage

- Purple flowers/balloons as decorations

- Purple lights

- A purple Relay theme window display

- Purple name tag ribbons for your staff

- A Relay message on your marquee/sign

- Ask your staff to wear purple

Teams of Relayers will be distributing purple and silver streamers and yard signs throughout the county and villages to raise awareness for Relay during the week of July 9th. Individuals in Morrow County are encouraged to help us “Paint the County Purple” by purchasing a purple porch light for $3. If you would like a streamer or two at your home, or a yard sign, please let the committee know.

Mattingly concluded, “Finally, we hope you will join us on Friday, July 27, at the Mount Gilead High School track for Relay for Life of Morrow County. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6 pm, the Luminaria ceremony at 10 pm, the auction at 8 am on Saturday morning and closing ceremony at noon. This is a time of Celebration for our cancer survivors, a time of Remembrance for those we’ve lost and a time to Fight Back against the disease called cancer!”

To participate in any of the “Paint the County Purple” events, please contact the event chair, Connie Mattingly, at 419–560-0062 for further information. “Because of your donations and the donations of millions of other merchants and individuals, there are more cancer patients surviving and celebrating more birthdays. Be a part of the movement!”
