Lunch and supply fees set, restricted traffic hours set by Northmor Board of Education
By Randa Wagner -
The Northmor School Board got business underway for the 2012–2013 school year at their June 21 regular meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Brent Winand said lunch prices increased, due more to government regulations than an increase in price of commodities.
“We must hit a certain percentage of the reimbursement we receive for free and reduced lunches,” Winand explained. “These (new) amounts round off the minimum increase we must have.”
Lunch prices for the 2012–2013 school year were approved at:
Elementary lunch $2.15
7–12 lunch $2.40
Adult lunch $2.50
Milk .50
The workbook fee lists for the 2012–2013 school year were approved. They are: Kindergarten $37, First grade $36, Second grade $43, Third grade $21.00, Fourth grade $34, Fifth grade $33, Sixth grade $16.
All junior high students will owe the following fees:
Assignment notebook $6.05
English/Reading Journal $8.95
Honeywell Instant Alert $ 2.75
* Tennis shoes for gym
Depending on your course choices you may also owe the following fees:
Junior High Living Skills $10.00
Computer Applications $ 8.00
Art $ 5.00
The board discussed the possibility of asking the Ohio Department of Transportation to specify the restricted hours for the school zone on the signs on State Route 19.
“There have been issues where we have had a number of calls over the year that ask us what are the restricted hours?” Winand told the board. “I said as far as we’re concerned, it’s [during school hours]. But we’ve called the state highway department and state highway patrol without getting an answer.”
It was eventually discovered if the board makes a formal resolution to request the posting of times and/or flashing lights, they (ODOT) would add that information to the sign. Winand proposed posting the times of 7:30 — 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 — 4:00 p.m.
“I’m trying to be as least intrusive as can be for the traffic on SR 19 and still create a safe environment for the buses and kids.”
A resolution was proposed to set the hours of 7:30 — 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 — 4:00 p.m as restricted hours for school traffic so the board can pursue signs with the hours posted.
The board approve the revised Student Promotion and Retention Policy, changes to the Elementary School Student Handbook, changes to the Junior High School Handbook, and changes to the High School Student Handbook for the 2012–2013 school year.
A service level agreement and contract with North Central Ohio Computer Cooperative was approved at the cost of $24,750. (This equates to approximately $22.50 per student x 1100 students.) Services include but are not limited to the school accounting, staff payroll and student administration systems, Internet connection and support, and technology training.
A Personal Services Contract with Leanna Rentz to provide Occupational Therapy for special needs students attending the Step By Step Academy during this summer and the 2012–2013 school year was approved.
The out of state trip for the Wrestling Team to travel to Clarion, Pennsylvania on June 24th through June 27th, 2012 was approved.
