Accessories shop opens in Mt. Gilead
By Randa Wagner –
Peg Young and Clarisa Young keep everything in the family.
Years ago the sisters married brothers, and now they have collaborated on an accessories shop in Mt. Gilead.
The pair opened Stepping Out in Style in late July in downtown Mt. Gilead in a little shop located between the Cornerstone Café and Mike Graham Insurance. Purses line the walls, ring boxes line the window ledge, and bracelets and necklaces round out the selection.
This is their first business endeavor, “Something we’ve just always wanted to do,” said Clarisa, “and to give Mt. Gilead something different.”
The two are retired, live in Mt. Gilead and were looking for something to occupy themselves with. Clarisa said there’s not a jewelry store left in town, and men have come in asking them to carry men’s jewelry, particularly sterling silver. They will be ordering mens’ earrings and necklaces.
Customer traffic has been surprisingly good, they said, for the brief amount of time they have been open.
“We’re trying to keep the prices affordable for everyone,” Clarissa said. “We also plan to carry select items of lingerie.”
For the time being, the hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday and payment must be cash or check.
