Cardington football opens year with pie auction
The Cardington-Lincoln High School Pirate football team kicked off the 2012–13 year with the traditional pie auction held Saturday, Aug. 4, in the high school cafeteria.
A total of $3,902 was generated from the sale of 37 pies. Each pie was presented by a member of the football team. Auctioneer was Wes Wigton.
The Pistachio pie of Crew Cochran sold for a record $580 and was purchased by his family. The money derived from the pie auction will fund the purchase of equipment, uniforms, video equipment, etc. for the team.
Each player was introduced by varsity coach Brandon Dodrill. The cheerleaders who later held their own pie auction, confirmed each sale with the buyer.
Purchasing pies were Kevin Dever (2), Lori Bright, Don and LaVerna White (2), Natalie and Joe Harris (4), Dale Barnett, Jaimie Speck, Elsie Deckling, Jeff Jordan, Maceyko Tax (3), Kevin Fridley, Jennifer Plummer, Bill Dornon, Angie Jenkins, Marla Greenawalt, John and Lori Levings, Marsha Miller, Rick Davis, Kim Bellamy, Collin Alwood, Eric and Melissa Disterdick, Randy Brown, Kim Bartlett, Sandy Mynhier, Brian Castle, Sherry Graham, Jeff Sherris, and Dawn and Troy Ruehrmund.
Players introduced by Coach Dodrill, each with a pie to be sold, were Andy Dever, Devin Brooks, Peyton Barnett, Chase Deckling, Jordan Brewster, Jarred Fraizer, Charlie Miller, Alex Taha, Jerrod Reeves, Garrett Boller, Devan Disterdick and Trevor Cooper, seniors;
Devin Brooks, Noah Zierden, Andy Plummer, Tyler Dornon, Colton Jenkins, Crew Cochran, Josh Kill, Travis Boyd and Devon Bartlett, juniors;
Dustin Blanton, Thomas Jordan, Nate Howard, Eric Collins, Austin Carte and Cole Blackwell, sophomores and Jason Beck, Devin Fridley, D J Greenawalt, John Levings, Chris Honaker, Jerrod Fair, Jake Foor, Tyler Castle, Brock Shade and Jared Roof, freshmen. Cade Ruehrmund was introduced as the ball boy.
Coach Dodrill introduced his coaching staff: Allen Adams, Troy Ruehrmund, Charlie Miller, and Curtis Adams. Absent were Mike Hall and Tod Brininger.
The cheerleaders raised $752 from their pie auction. The money raised will help fund their annual project, the creation of scrap books to be given to the senior members of the football team at the end of the season.
Cheerleaders are Leah Doubikin, Kailee Parsons, Courtney Robinson, and Allison Welty, seniors ; Brianna Brooks, junior and Mason Disterdick, Kimberlyn Seitz, Amanda Hook, Ashlee Parsons and Ally Fox, sophomores.
The football team played an intra squad scrimmage earlier in the day. Following the auction, a carry in dinner was enjoyed by all.
