Lester B. George

Lester B. George, age 89, of Mount Gilead, passed away Sat­ur­day evening, August 25, 2012, at the Mor­row County Hospital.

Lester was born in Mor­row County on Feb­ru­ary 27, 1923, the son of the late Roy Bur­ton and Edith Amer­ica (Brown) George. He grad­u­ated from Chester­ville in the Class of 1941.

On Feb­ru­ary 14, 1989, Lester mar­ried Marie Char­lene Babbs in Greenup, Ken­tucky. They shared over 23 won­der­ful years of mar­riage together.

For over 40 years Lester owned and oper­ated Lester George Saw Ser­vice. He would travel all over Ohio and sev­eral other states repair­ing sawmills. Every­one who owned a sawmill knew Lester George. He also ran a gen­eral repair shop out of his home where he would weld, sharpen lawn­mower blades, and pro­vide many other ser­vices for others.

Lester loved to play music. He played numer­ous instru­ments includ­ing the piano, gui­tar, banjo and marimba. He was part of the Melody Five Band and The Ven­tures, hav­ing played in many nurs­ing homes and yearly at the Wayne Grange Oys­ter Dinner.

Lester will always be remem­bered as a very tal­ented and inde­pen­dent man.

Lester will be dearly missed by his wife, Marie, of Mount Gilead; his nephew, Loyal (Bar­bara) Shaw of Stonecreek, OH; two nieces: Mar­i­lyn Green of Delaware, Diana Lehman of Hen­der­son­ville, NC; many great nieces and nephews; and numer­ous cousins.

In addi­tion to his par­ents, Lester was pre­ceded in death by his brother, Wilbur George; two sis­ters: Cecil Irene Shaw and Julia Fawn; two nephews: Mike and War­ren Shaw; and a niece, Waneta Fulton.

Lester’s fam­ily will greet friends from 1 –2 p.m. on Wednes­day, August 29, 2012 at the Sny­der Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Ser­vices cel­e­brat­ing his life will be held there imme­di­ately fol­low­ing at 2:00 p.m. with Pas­tor Jean­nie Win­ters offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial with mil­i­tary hon­ors pro­vided by the V.F.W. Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will fol­low in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tions, if desired, may be made to the Amer­i­can Can­cer Society.
