Letters to the Editor - Aug. 15

Dear Editor:

Concerned Citizens for Your Safety attended a packed Cardignton Township hall on Monday, August 13th.

Our group seems to be gathering steam. Two points were made very clear (1) the permit was issued in violation of zoning regulations (2) a number of people spoke as to safety on an already dangerous curve.

Thank you to all who attended and expressed their support.

Bill Griffin, Cardington

Dear Sir or Madam,

Considering the fact that every year at election time, there will inevitably be Levies on the Ballot, as sure as God made little green apples. The Manifestation of these levies is surely not the result of the Tax Payers paying too little in Taxes, it is my opinion that the powers that be, whether it is the State or County Treasurers, or School Districts, are flat out being irresponsible in doing the job that the folks paying their salaries have hired, or elected them to do. They have their priorities all screwed up.

It seems strange to me that every year we pay more and more in taxes and more tax monies are generated, but these monies don’t seem to be enough to cover the essential services that we have become accustomed to, over the years, causing our safety forces to shrink and our school systems to have to cut out things that the children have always had, including sports programs and music programs, even to the point that parents are forced to furnish items for the schools that have, until recently, always been a given.

I know I am a dinosaur in my thinking, however as an example, one would think that since we as a country, pay more per student than any other civilized country on education, we should have the best educated people in the entire world, but we are at the very bottom of the list, regarding education. Which leads me to believe that it is not the lack of money that is causing the problem with our Education System or the deteriorating Infrastructure of our Highways, Bridges and Cities in general and other essential services of our States, Cities and communities, it is the inappropriate use of that money.

I know I am like Don Quixote, tilting at Windmills and this is an exercise in futility, but I feel I should at least try to bring this to someone’s attention. I would hope that I am not alone in my Jurassic thinking and I really can’t believe I am.

Thank you, Darl Mills, Mt. Gilead

To the Editor,

Hail to the Chief! Wednesday, August 1st, President Obama arrived in the small, financially strapped city of Mansfield, Ohio. Yes, the city of Mansfield is in a state of fiscal emergency, but that was of no concern to the President as he insisted on an outdoor event, costing the city a small fortune. This outdoor event barricaded off several blocks and parking lots, hindering small businesses in the area.

Adding insult to injury, President Obama flew into a military base that his administration is trying to close. Apparently, the White House was “unaware” of that small fact.

The President’s speech was the same old same old — Governor Romney favors the rich, Obama wants to help middle-income, working families (I guess lower-income or upper income families are not considered to be “working” families). The White House also seems to have missed the fact that July marked the 42nd consecutive month that the unemployment rate remained above 8%, the highest since the 1930’s. The unemployment rate for Hispanics remains over 10%, while blacks struggle at a rate over 14%. Another small fact is that revenue for middle-income families has dropped by about $4,300 annually during this administration; while welfare spending has increased by about 41% with no decrease in the poverty rate, and a record number of Americans now receive food stamps.

The current administration believes that class warfare, and making more people dependent on government under the guise of “helping middle income families” will secure more votes, and perhaps it will, but anyone willing to look at the facts knows that our country cannot survive four more years of these failed policies. Our country’s success was based on free enterprise, a strong work ethic and a sense of personal responsibility.

After the event, the President continued on to Akron, Ohio, another depressed area. But rather than take the hour drive in his motorcade, the President returned to the military base he’s trying to close and flew to Akron.

How’s that for connecting to “middle-income” families.

  1. Great letter Marianne;
Despite Mr. Obama claiming to be for the working folks, he continues policies that only hurt the working folks and then blames the EVIL Republicans, who according to him want to push grannie over the cliff, take away Medicare from the old folks and show little regard for folks who only want to come into this country to better their lives, never mind that they don’t want to follow the law.
I would hope that your letter might help enlighten folks who may not be thinking clearly, maybe because they are too busy looking for a job or trying to put food on the table, in this Obama’s poor economy.
Considering how often Mr. Obama blamed Bush for all his troubles, just when can we start blaming Mr. Obama for all of the problems we now have.
    Thanks
