Priscilla "Jane" Fisher

Priscilla “Jane” Fisher, age 85, of Marengo, died Tuesday morning, August 28, 2012, at her residence after several years of failing health.

On September 14, 1926, Jane was born in Coleman, Michigan, the daughter of the late Clair and Thelma (Lyness) Canute. She was raised in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, where she managed to complete her high school education, despite being injured in an automobile accident. She also worked as a nurse’s aide there for several years.

In 1963, Jane and her family then moved to Morrow County during the oil boom. She worked there part time for her friends at the golf course and a pizza shop, until she was introduced by mutual friends to Leroy Fisher.

Getting a second chance at love, Jane and Leroy were married on Valentine’s Day in 1973. In addition to being a loving homemaker for Leroy and their four children, Jane also was his best help on the farm. She helped bail hay, and tended to his livestock, especially his lambs whom she had a golden touch with. She even drove school bus for Highland Schools often substituting for Leroy. They cherished their thirty-nine years of marriage together.

Taking great pride in her home, Jane kept the tidiest of homes, keeping everything in the house ‘super clean’, even her children and their clothes. She also kept the most ‘immaculate garden’ and enjoyed caring for her flowers.

A wonderful cook’, Jane could make a wonderful meal out of practically nothing.

A woman of faith, Jane was member of the Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Cardington.

With a love for fishing, Jane enjoyed getting any one in the family she could to go fishing with her. She especially loved their salmon fishing trips to Lake Michigan. She also enjoyed making ceramic gifts to give to her family and friends.

Having a heart of gold, Jane’s first concerns were always making sure everyone else was well cared for. She cared deeply for her family, her neighbors, her animals, and most especially her grandchildren whom she cherished her time with.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Leroy Fisher of Marengo; four children: Judy (William) Gibbs of Springport, Michigan, Dallas (Ruth) Jason of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Mauri (Cheryl) Jason, of Mount Gilead, and Peggy Davidson of Marengo; nine grandchildren: Michele (Jeff) Mead, Travis (Shelly) Gibbs, Jeanie (David) Styer, Justin (Nikki) Jason, Rhonda (Andrew) Howell, Robert (Elizabeth) Davidson, Heather (Alvie) Haynes, Dartanion (Becky) Overfield, and Monica (Joe) Jackson; twenty five great-grandchildren: Chelsea and Chase Mead, Carter and Nash Gibbs, Hayden and Darren Styer, Calix Jason, Lincoln, Landon, Layne and Logan Howell, Clayton, Jacob and Emma Davidson, Shania and Richard Haynes, Jesse, Desiree, Kaylee and Nathan Overfield, and Terrance, Jacob, Tawny, Joey and Trynity Jackson; several nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Including her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Langlois; and her brother, Clair Canute Jr.

Her family will greet friends from 4 — 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Hearts Church, 4680 U.S. Route 42, Cardington, with Father John Bakle serving as Celebrant.
