On March 20, 1916, Ruth was born in Fulton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Delbert and Mary (Skinner) Liggett. She graduated from Marengo High School in the Class of 1934.
She married Walter C. Zeigler on September 7, 1935. They shared a loving and caring marriage for over 73 years before he preceded her in death on September 20, 2008. Ruth and Walter spent more than 50 years working together in their Amway business. They enjoyed taking care of deliveries and making new friends along the way. In addition to her Amway business, Ruth also worked for North Electric and the Morrow County Auditor’s Office.
Ruth was a long time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club where she was once named Outstanding Business Woman of the Year for Morrow County, and the Women’s Democratic Club, having served as President of each organization.
Nothing was more important to Ruth than her family. She loved spending time with them, laughing and telling stories. She will always be remembered for the bubbly, loving and nurturing way she had about herself.
Ruth will be dearly missed by two daughters: Helen (Paul) Collins of Marengo, Debbie (Dan) McCardle of Mount Gilead; a son, Melvin (Betty) Zeigler of Reynoldsburg; a daughter-in-law, Linda Zeigler of Columbus; six grandchildren: Travis Zeigler of Reynoldsburg, Greta Zeigler of Columbus, Brett McCardle, Amberly McCardle, and Amanda Selby, all of KY, Melanie (Mark) Dickman of Worthington; four great granddaughters: Alexis and Payton Selby, April (Bradley) Walker and Courtney Dickman; one great grandson, Chris Dickman; a great great grandson, Gabriel Walker; five nephews: Dan (Courtney) Ryon of Raleigh, NC, Mike (Bonnie) Ryon of Denver, NC, Tom (Lynn) Ryon of Spring, TX, Guy Liggett Jr. of MA, Bernard (Dorothy) Patrick of Delaware; many great nieces and nephews; special cousins, Forrest Fritz, Bob Skinner and their families; and numerous cousins.
In addition to her husband, Walter, and her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, William; her brother, Guy Liggett; and her sister, Faye Ryon.
At her request, funeral services will not be held and a private burial will take place in Fulton Cemetery at a later date.
