Upcoming activities at MG State Park

Wild Days are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday August 7 and 8 at the Mt. Gilead State Park. Youth ages 6–12 will have four sessions in nature with environmental educators from 9:30 to 11:30 AM,. Preschoolers will meet with this Naturalist in a separate session in Shelter #1 and they will be catching and looking at insects.

The Harmony Chapel UMW will be holding a picnic and program at the park on Wednesday evening.

New Naturalist, Terri McFarland joined the staff at Mt. Gilead this week and she will be taking over several scheduled programs and will be ready to initiate other activities. She has been conducting day camps at the park for the last three years. Her first official outing was to the Ohio State Fair on Thursday. The Naturalists spent the day in the cabin of the Natural Resources Area and especially enjoyed being visited by several Morrow County 4-H families that had come for their competition in the youth building.

The Volunteers in Parks hosted two breakfasts and Peddlers in the Park this weekend and it was well attended. With food , entertainment and a square dance, this has turned into another festival. Their next scheduled country breakfasts will be Labor Day weekend.

August brings thoughts of school starting and the Naturalists will be setting up a display at the Tomorrow School Open House on August 22.
