Ivan Sipes

Ivan William Sipes, 81, of rural Galion in Mor­row County went to be with his Lord and Sav­ior on Sept. 22, 2012 at his home.

He was born Nov. 22, 1930 to the late Boyd T. and Hazel G. (Hall) Sipes in North Bloom­field Twp., Mor­row County where he lived his whole life.

He grad­u­ated from Iberia High School in 1949 and the same year mar­ried his high school sweet­heart, Mar­i­lyn M. Rine­hart, on June 12 at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Mor­row County. They exem­pli­fied a Godly mar­riage for over 63 years. Together they lov­ingly raised their fam­ily of two daugh­ters, two sons, seven grand­chil­dren, and six great-grandchildren. They enjoyed trav­el­ing, espe­cially to visit their fam­ily in dis­tant places.

A man of deep faith, Ivan was a faith­ful mem­ber of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, as well as the Friend­ship Parish of Methodist Churches, the Friend­ship Parish Choir, Ebenezer Broth­er­hood, Mor­row County Men for Mis­sions, North­mor School Board, and Seniors on Cen­ter of Mor­row County. Ivan and Mar­i­lyn were rec­og­nized as Out­stand­ing Senior Cit­i­zens of Mor­row County in 2006. They enjoyed play­ing domi­noes each week with a group of friends for many years.

He seemed to know every­one in Mor­row County as well as the sur­round­ing coun­ties hav­ing been a co-owner or sales­man for John Deere farm equip­ment for over 30 years in three loca­tions. He also worked for sev­eral years at Lib­erty Mill in Galion.

In addi­tion to his faith­ful, lov­ing wife, he is sur­vived by two daugh­ters and sons-in-law, Cheryl (Mark) Fis­cher of Mont­gomery, Texas and their chil­dren, Amy and Matthew Fis­cher of Hous­ton, Texas; Mil­dred (Jerry) Petersen of Roat án, Hon­duras and their son, Jesse (Kristin) Petersen of Tampa, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, John R. (Linda) Sipes of Galion and their chil­dren, Devon (Ruben) Ruiz of Galion, Nathan (Can­dace) McRill of Find­lay, and Amanda (Shan­dale) Collins of Arling­ton; six great-grandchildren sur­vive him as well as his brother, Don­ald Sipes of Galion; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lois Rine­hart, Duane Rine­hart, Alvin (Mar­garet) Rine­hart, Danny (Linda) Rine­hart and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addi­tion to his par­ents, Ivan was pre­ceded by one son, Leslie G. Sipes who died in 2003 and one grand­daugh­ter, Rachel L. Petersen, who died in 1981; his brother and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Ruth) Sipes, and Clarence’s first wife Juanita; three sis­ters and brothers-in-law, Ethel (Vin­cent) Pale­vich, Mabel (James) Miller and Mabel’s first hus­band, William Bald­win; Eve­lyn (James) Wise­man; a sister-in-law, Bar­bara Sipes and a brother-in-law Ger­ald Rinehart.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thurs­day, Sept. 27, 2012 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion. A funeral ser­vice will be held at 10:30 a.m. Fri­day, Sept. 28 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8652 State Route 19, Galion with Pas­tor Gary Lamb-Hart offi­ci­at­ing and Jerry Petersen offer­ing the eulogy via video. Bur­ial will fol­low at Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery.
