Mary E. Armbruster
Mary E. Armbruster, age 93, of Lancaster, PA and formerly of Edison, OH, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2012, at the Hamilton Arms Center.
Born February 12, 1919, Mary grew up on a farm just west of Edison, one of seven children of the late Fred Ivan and Annis Elizabeth (Campbell) Wertz. Mary graduated from the Edison School system in 1937 and went on to receive her RN degree from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. On March 26, 1949 she married Francis “Regis” Armbruster (deceased). Mary devoted herself to her family, but also maintained a very industrious nursing career. She worked various nursing positions including Mansfield General Hospital, Dr. Kubbs Family Practice, Morrow County General Hospital, Mansfield State Penitentiary, Dr. Hickson, Richland County Health Department, and the Beatty Lung Clinic. Additionally, Mary volunteered for the Red Cross, was a past vice president of the Morrow County Cancer Society, and greatly enjoyed giving her time as camp nurse to Camp Walhonding. Mary also volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Gilead, OH.
Mary was dearly loved by her family and will be missed by her four children: Michael R (Pamela) Armbruster of State College, PA, Stephen F. (Sally) Armbruster of Lancaster, PA, Debra K. (Randall) Linn of Great Falls, MT and Tamula J. (Roger) Ward of Independence, KS; two sisters, Virginia Moore of Xenia, OH, and Wanda Rezac of Sidney, NE, sister-in-law Iris Wertz of Mansfield, OH, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by four siblings: Martha “Pauline” Wertz, Freda Wire, Dorothy King, and William “Bill” Wertz, and one grandchild, Heidi A. Linn. There will be a graveside service when Mary is buried next to her husband in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Shelby, OH at a later date. Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to your local American Cancer Society.
