Ralph Windsor

Ralph L. Windsor, age 91, passed away September 20, 2012.

He was the son of Alvin and Myrta Windsor, born on July 4, 1921 at the Windsor homestead, purchased in 1919. The home no longer stands, but was located on Township Road 218 in Marengo, Ohio. He grew up in the area and graduated from Marengo High School in 1939. His father was a farmer and his mother taught at the very schools that he attended. He spoke fondly on his childhood memories of growing up on the farm and going by horse and buggy to school with his mom. Growing up during the depression, he felt he never lacked for anything as they always had food to eat from the farm and he had many friends throughout the small community.

He met his wife Bonnie Jeanne Gaddis in high school and they were later married in 1945 following his honorable discharge after serving in WWII, Army Air Corps in England, France and Belgium. He had attended Ohio Wesleyan University. After he and Bonnie married, they moved to Columbus where he was employed by the Clark Grave Vault Co and retired after 36 years of service. In the 1950’s Ralph and Bonnie moved to Dublin, Ohio where he built there home and raised their four daughters.

He became known for his love of birding and his dedication to helping save the endangered Eastern Blue Bird. In his retirement years, Ralph made hundreds of blue bird boxes and feeders that were installed around Dublin.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Bonnie Jeanne, who passed away in 1999 after 53 years of marriage. Also preceding him in death, were his parents Alvin and Myrta Windsor, sister Pearl Westbrook, sister Erma Robson and son in law David Prebenda.

He is survived by daughters Bonnie (Jeff) Gahris, Chicago, Carol Smith, Columbus, Vicki (Brian) Moran, Dublin, and Sandy O’Shaughnessy (John) Plymouth, MI. Also, survived by his grandchildren, Patrick and Michael Moran, Morgan and Ryan Prebenda, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives may call at the Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home, 515 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio on Wed., Sept. 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment service will be held at Union Cemetery on Sept. 27 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village of Dublin on a date yet to be determined.
