Blanche L. Gilfillan

Blanche L. Gil­fil­lan, 90 of Bucyrus passed away Tues­day morn­ing, Octo­ber 9, 2012 in Heart­land of Bucyrus. Blanche was born on Feb­ru­ary 22, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio to the Late Robert and Blanche Olive (Bortz) Cor­nell. On Jan­u­ary 4, 1942 she mar­ried Dud­ley P. Gil­fil­lan who on Decem­ber 10, 1994 pre­ceded her in death.

Sur­viv­ing are her sons, Dud­ley A. (Donna) Gil­fil­lan of Bucyrus, and Dr. Ken­neth R. (Deb­o­rah) Gil­fil­lan of Wilm­ing­ton, Ohio, her daugh­ter, Susan West of West­er­ville, Ohio. Also sur­viv­ing are her grand­chil­dren, Stephen West of Med­ina, Ohio and Tam­era Chap­man of Chester­ville, Ohio, 6 great grand­chil­dren, Brother, Chuck (Shirley) Cor­nell of Jef­fer­son, Ohio, and a Half Brother, Arthur Thurston of Med­ina, Ohio, as well as numer­ous nieces and nephews.

Blanche is pre­ceded in death by her broth­ers, George Cor­nell and Robert Cor­nell as well as her son-in-law, Terry West.

Blanche grad­u­ated from Jef­fer­son High School in 1940. She lived in Chester­ville from 1952 to 1977 where she helped her hus­band farm and worked as a cook for the school for nearly 20 years. In 1977 they moved to Wilm­ing­ton, Ohio where they lived for 10 years. In 1987 she moved to Bucyrus. She is a past mem­ber of the Zion Chapel United Methodist Church. While attend­ing church, she played the organ and was very active with the Wor­ship Music Com­mit­tee. She enjoyed cro­chet­ing, knit­ting and was a past mem­ber of the Order of East­ern Star.

The fam­ily will receive friends on Fri­day from 12 noon until the time of ser­vice in the funeral home. Funeral Ser­vice for Blanche will be held on Fri­day at 1:00 pm in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Heinlen offi­ci­at­ing, bur­ial will fol­low in the Maple Grove Ceme­tery in Chester­ville, Ohio.

The fam­ily has requested memo­r­ial con­tri­bu­tions be made to the Juve­nile Dia­betes Asso­ci­a­tion or the Hope Lodge of Cleve­land through the funeral home.
