Fall golf outing raises funds for Special Deputies
Staff report –
Pine Lakes was the golf course of choice when Morrow County Special Deputies held their first Golf Outing September 15.
Auxiliary officers held the outing in place of the annual country music show they have held in the past. Organized by Deputy Kim Denty and Auxiliary Treasurer Gary Stevens,
The event had teams consisting of 4 men or women playing 18 holes of golf from noon until about 6:00 pm.
This is their first golf outing and they had 12 teams,” Sheriff Steve Brenneman noted. “I think it went amazingly well — we were very pleased with how it went.”
Special Deputies are men and women who are fully trained deputies and volunteer their time to the county when they are needed.
Pine Lakes Golf Course donated some free rounds of golf as prizes and the Owl Creek Restaurant prepared the dinner served afterward. Former Deputy Steve Roterhumnd donated a set of golf clubs as a prize. Bob Hurtt, sponsored by James Madison Insurance, won the golf clubs. Don Wake won a prize for the longest drive.
Special Deputies Larry Harden and Gary Stevens gave tickets for door prizes and sold 50/50 and raffle tickets. A steak dinner was served by Owl Creek Restaurant with a live auction afterward.
Ted Hall & Kim Denty made the live auction fun with a little ‘Vanna White’ and ‘Bob Barker’ humor. holding up different baskets with a “no, that ‘price isn’t right’ you need to bid higher.” Fun was had by all and the special deputies raised almost $5,000.00 from the event. Proceeds from the outing go to the auxiliary unit for equipment used to assist the sheriff’s office.
“Brenda and Larry put a tremendous amount of work into this outing,” Brenneman said, crediting the Hardens. “They got sponsors and door prizes and baskets. We really appreciate all the hole sponsors and donations for door prizes. It was a great time and a great success.”
