LMC Apple Butter Festival has another successful year
By Evelyn Long –
Many youngsters will be camping at the Lutheran Memorial Camp thanks to the generosity of visitors to the 38th annual LMC Apple Butter Festival held Sunday, October 14.
There were 750 visitors who generated a total of $3,000 in proceeds from the festival. All funds derived from the event help to fund camp attendance by youths.
Boosting the proceeds was the annual Silent Auction with 180 items displayed.
New his year was the corn maze and the cup cake decorating contest. There were many craft booths and apple goodies from pie, fritters, cookies, candy, cupcakes, and of course, apple butter.
Among those dining in the lodge were Sandi and Mike Poyer and their daughter, Hannah of Pickerington, who return every year for the event. “We use to camp here and we were married right there,” said Mike, pointing to the fire place in the Cedar Lodge.
Joe and Joanne Sherman of Norwalk, took a break from working at the Erie Huron Chapter Thrivent Food Stand to eat their favorite, bean soup.
Also returning was Job Ebenezer of Columbus, with the pedal power bicycle.
Ebenezer actively works to help the poor here and in other countries through sustainable technology which he promotes throughout the world. He demonstrated that with the pedal power attached to the bicycle, people in third world countries can provide power to complete many chores such as sawing wood. Technology for the Poor is a non –profit organization, noted Ebenezer. He gave a demonstration of sawing wood while someone pedaled the bicycle which generated power to the saw.
The staff of the camp thanks the following for their donations and help with the festival: CArdington Boy Scout Troop 30; Cindy Pearce, Carol Ault Dance Factory, Wolford Martial Arts Studio, Thursday Night Gang band, LincolnShire Farms , Carla Myers and Jackie Leatherman, Bob and Sue Fett, Pine Lakes Golf Course, Chris Shoemaker, Dean Redmond, Erie Huron Chapter Thrivent; Central Ohio 4 County Thrivent, Greene County Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, St. John Lutheran Church, Windfall, Avalon Food Service, GFS Food Service, Gardens and Gifts and Splatter Park Auction.
