Northmor bus driver killed in car/pedestrian accident

A Northmor bus driver was killed in a tragic car/pedestrian accident on State Route 309 in Canaan Twp about 4:48 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29.

The accident occurred in the 1800 block of SR 309 between CR 28 and TR 64. The Mt. Gilead Post of the State Highway Patrol said in a press release early Tuesday that Joshua Sines, 25, of Galion, was westbound on SR 309 in a 2002 Chevrolet Prism. Marvin McCleary, 59, of Caledonia, was walking across SR 309 from his mailbox to his residence when he was struck by Sines’ vehicle near the centerline of the road.

The Ohio State Patrol, the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Iberia Fire Department and Mt. Gilead Fire Department responded to the scene. Morrow County EMS transported McCleary to Galion Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Sines was uninjured.

Alcohol and/or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor in this accident. The crash remains under investigation by the OSHP.

It was an honor to know and spend time with Dale. A hard working man with a 10 pound heart. They don’t make them like that anymore.

My condolences go out to Dale’s family. He was a wonderful man who treated my son as well as all the other children as if they were his own. He was always smiling and always spoke to you if he saw you out and about. The world has lost a great human being. We love you and will miss you LOTS!!! The Ruhl Family

God sent an angel to me and my family the first day Dale stepped on that school bus! He was so caring and compassionate and loved our kids as though they were his own! I’m so thankful to have had the chance to know Dale. I am not certain that I ever thanked him for taking such excellent care of my baby!! I would like to take this time to tell his family that he was dear to us. He will be deeply missed! I pray that although you are grieving, you will take comfort in knowing that Dale is in an AWESOME place!! I have NO doubt!! May God bless your grieving hearts!!

It is a sad time for Morrow county, Dale’s concern was the kids on his bus.… and if we had more like him, our children would be safe.… our deepest heartfelt condolences go out to his family…and all who loved him.…..
