Rain doesn’t dampen Big Walnut Poker Run

Despite the rainy weather on Sep­tem­ber 8th, sev­eral rid­ers brought their motor­cy­cles to the first Big Wal­nut Joint Fire Dis­trict Poker Run and Hog Roast.

The Poker Run was an 80 mile round trip that took the rid­ers by each of the five Fire/EMS sta­tions in Mor­row County. The rid­ers were asked to stop by each sta­tion and take a pic­ture of the fire­house to receive their play­ing cards when they returned. All rid­ers received a door prize (donated by Mor­row County Health Dept.), 5 play­ing cards, raf­fle ticket and a meal with their entry fee. The top three win­ning hands received a Poker Run plaque donated by Mor­row County House of Trophies.

After the Poker Run, BWJFD invited rid­ers and the com­mu­nity to a Hog Roast din­ner and raf­fle. Mean Beans 4-H Club Mem­ber, Bryce Schott, offered to let the Fire Depart­ment buy his extra fair hog for the hog roast din­ner. Fire­fight­ers Jake Ruther­ford, Dan Hud­dle­ston, Josh Kovacs and Chief Ray Baker went to the Mor­row County Fair to pur­chase ” Bitts” the hog from Bryce and his par­ents Aaron and Glo­ria. Dee-Jays’s Cus­tom Butcher­ing in Fred­er­ick­town donated the slaugh­ter­ing of the hog.
