Robert C. Caldwell

Robert C. Cald­well, age 88 of Card­ing­ton, died Sun­day morn­ing, Octo­ber 21, 2012 at his res­i­dence. He was born on Octo­ber 13, 1924 to the late Charles Wil­son and Ava Marie (Cooperider) Cal­well in Delaware, Ohio.

Robert mar­ried his wife, the for­mer Mar­vel Marie Greathouse in 1947 and she pre­ceded him in death.

Robert was a United States Army Air Corps Vet­eran and served as a plot­ter dur­ing World War II. After serv­ing his coun­try hon­or­ably he went on to work at the Colum­bus State Psy­chi­atric Hos­pi­tal for 28 years and was in charge of the refrig­er­a­tion maintenance.

On June 9, 2012 Robert was lucky to par­take in the “Honor Flight” to Wash­ing­ton D.C. which was a cher­ished mem­ory of his. He was a life­time bowler and enjoyed bowl­ing at the South­land Lanes in Mar­ion and most recently bowled a 233. He worked at Hoy’s Pool Hall in Marysville and also owned Bob Cald­well real­ity in Columbus.

Robert is sur­vived by two sons, Robert R. “Bob” Cald­well of Card­ing­ton, and Den­nis E. Cald­well of National City, CA; two sis­ters, Shirley (Gene) Har­bold of Marysville and Mary Wel­ton of Hen­ryville, OK, 3 grandson’s, Rick, Randy, and Bob Cald­well and their fam­i­lies, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

In addi­tion to his wife and par­ents, Robert was also pre­ceded in death by 3 broth­ers James “Jimmy”, Gene “Char­lie Brown” and Dick Cald­well, 1 sis­ter, Betty Fout and sec­ond wife, Cather­ine Hay.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Cen­ter Street Card­ing­ton, Ohio 43315, on Thurs­day, Octo­ber 25, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral ser­vice begin­ning at 1:00 PM. Chap­lain Dave Matos with Mor­row County Hos­pice will offi­ci­ate and the bur­ial will fol­low in Glen­dale Ceme­tery where full mil­i­tary Hon­ors will be observed.
