Robert C. Caldwell
Robert C. Caldwell, age 88 of Cardington, died Sunday morning, October 21, 2012 at his residence. He was born on October 13, 1924 to the late Charles Wilson and Ava Marie (Cooperider) Calwell in Delaware, Ohio.
Robert married his wife, the former Marvel Marie Greathouse in 1947 and she preceded him in death.
Robert was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran and served as a plotter during World War II. After serving his country honorably he went on to work at the Columbus State Psychiatric Hospital for 28 years and was in charge of the refrigeration maintenance.
On June 9, 2012 Robert was lucky to partake in the “Honor Flight” to Washington D.C. which was a cherished memory of his. He was a lifetime bowler and enjoyed bowling at the Southland Lanes in Marion and most recently bowled a 233. He worked at Hoy’s Pool Hall in Marysville and also owned Bob Caldwell reality in Columbus.
Robert is survived by two sons, Robert R. “Bob” Caldwell of Cardington, and Dennis E. Caldwell of National City, CA; two sisters, Shirley (Gene) Harbold of Marysville and Mary Welton of Henryville, OK, 3 grandson’s, Rick, Randy, and Bob Caldwell and their families, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was also preceded in death by 3 brothers James “Jimmy”, Gene “Charlie Brown” and Dick Caldwell, 1 sister, Betty Fout and second wife, Catherine Hay.
Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street Cardington, Ohio 43315, on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. Chaplain Dave Matos with Morrow County Hospice will officiate and the burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery where full military Honors will be observed.
