Adopt-A-Grandparent gift program underway
By Randa Wagner -
Melanie Greenawalt and her fellow Mary Kay ‘Car Team’ unit are attempting to see that all 96 residents at Woodside Village Care Center get ‘adopted’ for Christmas this year.
Adopted?
It’s part of Mary Kay’s annual “Adopt a Grandparent” program in which residents of nursing homes receive a comfort-type gift for the holidays.
“We’re collecting $20 (per resident gift),” Greenawalt said. “We will go Christmas caroling and deliver the the gifts right before Christmas.”
The gift is the same for all recipients: a pair of fuzzy socks, Mint Bliss Energizing Lotion for Feet and Legs, Hand Cream, and a bag of candy.
She said her unit has over 40 done currently, and their goal is 96 — the number of residents at Woodside. If the group gets enough contributions, they can buy for Bennington Glen residents as well.
“Though (Mary Kay consultants) are doing it all over different counties, we decided to pick one specific place so they could all get adopted,” she explained.
Any individual or business can contribute toward the effort. Greenawalt said even if they don’t get enough to cover all 96 residents at Woodside, they will make sure everyone gets something.
Interested persons or businesses can contact Greenawalt at 614–419-4930.
“We’re not trying to make money,” Greenawalt said. “It’s just something we decided to do as a unit. Everybody helps kids, but who helps the elderly? It might be the only gift they receive for the season.”
