Edison Council wraps up the year; thanks voters for passing levy

By Alberta Stojkovic -

Edison Village Council members had many thanks to give to citizens and much to celebrate at their December 17 meeting Monday. They found that the their third levy passed by a margin of just 5 votes after the recount. The levy was for the renewal

of 1 mill for 5 years for current expenses that included street lights. The final vote was 107 for the levy and 102 against.

The council already knew the Fire replacement levy of 1.5 mills for 5 years passed with 110 for and 100 against. The Renewal for roads of 2 mills for 5 years also passed comfortably with 124 for the levy and 86 against. So once again the council members were glad to thank Edison voters for the passage of all three of the village levies this year.

Mayor Sandy Ackerman pointed out that the citizens will all directly benefit from these

three levies for fire, streets, street lights and other current expenses for the village.

In other news, Street Commissioner Jerry Reeder reported that the water main at the corner of Willams and Boundary Street broke last week and water poured out and literally lifted the street. Luckily, there were workers from Delco in the area who were able to repair the pipe. The problem is that there is some kind of sink hole there so that it is a problem to repair the street over the pipe.

Reeder said that materials for the utility building have been purchased and they are just waiting for the weather to break to put the building up.

The roof on the village building should also be worked on as soon as the weather breaks. The materials have been purchased and the dumpster has been brought in for the old roof when it comes off.

Council member Patti Feustal reported for the finance committee that the budget for the year was finished. The council passed temporary appropriations to go through until mid-April when the permanent appropriations are passed.

The council approved payment of bills for the month of Dec. for $16,731.34. Of that total, $11,104.00 is for materials for the street dept. utility building. Payroll for the first two weeks of December is $1,184.90 for police chief, BPA accountant, clerk/treasurer and street dept. workers.

The next Edison Village Council Meeting will be Jan. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m.
