Knights, Indians off to good starts in wrestling

North­mor claimed sec­ond place at the Big Wal­nut Invi­ta­tional on Sat­ur­day, win­ning four matches before los­ing in the finals.

The Knights opened their day with a 59–18 win over Paint Val­ley that was fol­lowed by a 42–34 win over Dublin Jerome.

In their third con­test, North­mor cruised to a 55–21 win over Galion, which was fol­lowed by a 42–30 vic­tory against the host school.

The Knights weren’t able to win in the finals, though, as Delaware Hayes claimed a 57–19 win that put North­mor in sec­ond place.

Knights Jamie Baldridge, Colin Vis­conti and Tyler Beck all went 5–0 on the day; while Grif­fin Jenk­ins and Sam Neer were both 4–1.

In the tour­na­ment MVP vot­ing, Beck and Baldridge were the top two vote-getters, with Beck receiv­ing the award.

Last Wednes­day saw North­mor claim two wins in a bracket quad hosted by the school.

The Knights topped Mar­ion Hard­ing 64–18 and beat Tif­fin Calvert 42–34.

Jenk­ins, Beck, Baldridge, Mitchel Whisler and Kyle John­son all won both of their matches dur­ing the evening.

Mount Gilead Indians

The Mount Gilead wrestling team opened the sea­son with third-place fin­ishes in two tournaments.

On Sat­ur­day, the Indi­ans com­peted in Bucyrus. Kyle Blan­ton (120 pounds), Luke Hutchin­son (132) and Tyler Bashaw (160) all placed sec­ond. Tim Williamson (138) took third, as did Alex Blan­ton (145) and Con­nor Hill (heavyweight).

Also, Austin Jen­nings (182) fin­ished fourth, Mike Mol­la­han (220) was fifth and both Kyle Ciballi (126) and Austin Billings­ley (220) were sixth.

On Sat­ur­day, Dec. 1, Mount Gilead got third place at Franklin Heights. Hutchin­son won at 132 pounds, while Williamson, Blan­ton and Bashaw all fin­ished in sec­ond place. Also, Mol­la­han wres­tled his way to fourth.
