Looks like we’re going to have to ban hammers
By Randa Wagner, Editor -
On Monday an article by the Associated Press caught my eye, Florida man accused of killing neighbor with a hammer. Seems a 28-yr.-old Tampa-Bay area man attacked his neighbor with a hammer and has been charged with second degree murder.
You know what this means, right? The government will have to ban hammers.
The hammer killed the neighbor, you see. The man holding the hammer is far less responsible for the crime than the metal and wood object. After all, when people use guns to kill, the government wants to tighten gun laws. Nevermind the fact the perpetrator is not usually a responsible gun owner with permits and firearms training. The nut-cases out there who use semi-automatic weapons to mow down children in schools or people in shopping malls are typically folks with serious psychological issues.
You can bet your bottom dollar the government will use this last tragedy to ban private ownership of guns. (It’s all part of a bigger plan, folks.)
What the big boys in Washington forget (or choose to ignore) is criminals always manage to get their hands on weapons and carry them. Responsible, sane citizens aren’t suppose to carry them into stores, business or schools but, any sanity-challenged person can — and will. I’ll never forget the news story years ago of a man who walked into a McDonald’s and spent an hour methodically executing people. He took his time, walking about, talking to the folks before he killed them. Had just ONE person in that restaurant been carrying a handgun, over a dozen people might not have died.
People have choked to death on chicken — should we ban that? People die of alcohol poisoning, or drown while they are drunk. Hmmm… makes alcohol seem pretty dangerous, doesn’t it? Americans die in tragic car accidents every day because someone is not driving responsibly or chooses to commit suicide by driving head-on into another vehicle… maybe we should all ride bicycles. Cars, after all, can be used to run people over on sidewalks or be loaded with explosives and detonated in crowded areas. If we get rid of all the cars (except for government officials, of course), that can’t happen anymore, right?
The same day the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings happened, a man with a knife in Henan province in China slashed 22 children and one adult outside an elementary school. It was China’s worst such incident in more than a year.
Wonder if they will enact legislation to ban kitchen knives in Asia.
