Last Sun­day, widely referred to as Sanc­tity of Life Sun­day, marked the 40th anniver­sary of Roe vs. Wade, the infa­mous Supreme Court deci­sion on Jan­u­ary 22, 1973, to legal­ize abor­tion. While much has been done by some states to insti­tute sane restraints on abor­tion such as man­dat­ing edu­ca­tion about the pre-born, wait­ing peri­ods, parental and spousal con­sents, and mak­ing adop­tion eas­ier, fed­eral law still per­mits any woman to have an abor­tion for any rea­son right up until full term!

Recent med­ical sci­en­tific advance­ments con­firm what most of us already knew in our hearts and what the Scrip­tures con­firm: the fer­til­ized egg is genet­i­cally and fully human. The fetus has a beat­ing heart, emo­tions, and feels pain.

Our cul­ture gives lip ser­vice to the spe­cial­ness of each child, yet utterly dis­re­gards the life of the pre-born. The mother-to-be is granted a legal per­mis­sion to ter­mi­nate the life of her own baby before she exits the womb, even (often) for the sake of convenience.

Those who vig­or­ously defend so-called “abor­tion rights” paint worst-case sce­nar­ios, such as rape and incest, as jus­ti­fi­ca­tion for legal abor­tion. But the abor­tion mills such as Planned Par­ent­hood reg­u­larly per­form abor­tions on under­age girls who are clearly the vic­tim of such abuse, never seek­ing to press charges against the per­pe­tra­tors and the per­verts, the abu­sive males. Such hypocrisy from women who claim to want to empower other women!

Yet, imag­ine if abor­tion was sud­denly ille­gal. Would the pro-life com­mu­nity cel­e­brate a tremen­dous vic­tory? Hope­fully we are not that short-sighted. Those who defend the “right to life,” hav­ing faith that their prayers and tire­less efforts span­ning 40 years will bear fruit, should admit the following:

To crim­i­nal­ize abor­tion will do noth­ing to trans­form the promis­cu­ous cul­ture. It will do noth­ing to impart dig­nity to the female who begs for worth and affec­tion. It will not guar­an­tee an open door and a lov­ing embrace for each throw-away child. It won’t pro­vide real help to the impov­er­ished, who already have too many mouths to feed.

We can’t expect pub­lic edu­ca­tors to restore self-worth to this con­fused pop­u­lace, since they are not equipped to teach cre­ation­ism, only evo­lu­tion to our boys and girls.

If we are any closer to eras­ing the scourge of Roe vs. Wade, it is not appar­ent. It seems daunt­ing to con­sider the set­backs. Yet, uphold­ing the sanc­tity of life takes in so much more. As pro-life peo­ple we must deter­mine to live with jus­tice and show mercy, the end being noth­ing less than cul­tural trans­for­ma­tion. This may indeed require us to “…pledge to each other our lives, our for­tunes and our sacred honor” exhibit­ing the same courage as the founders.

The promise remains: If My peo­ple who are called by My name will hum­ble them­selves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will for­give their sin and heal their land! (2 Chron­i­cles 7:14) (NKJV)

Dear Edi­tor,

I want to thank Mr. Tay­lor for let­ting us know there are peo­ple that voted for Obama to insure their right to pay more in taxes so they can have less take home pay. More taxes to pay for all that free heath care. It should also be noted that the gov­ern­ment health care plan has the right to deter­mine what treat­ment you will or will not receive and every year and you get to pay more and more in taxes for it. Pay more get less.

Obama is a finance genius he is telling us we don’t have a spend­ing prob­lem but he needs to raise the debt limit. I guess when you bor­row more money so you can spend more that’s not a spend­ing prob­lem. You have to be a genius to fig­ure that one out.

Thomas Jef­fer­son said, “The great­est dan­ger to Amer­i­can free­dom is a gov­ern­ment that ignores the con­sti­tu­tion.” Obama has ignored the con­sti­tu­tion from the time he took the oath for the office he holds. Con­gress goes not agree with him he just signs an exec­u­tive order. He will not be happy until there is a one-world gov­ern­ment and he is the one rul­ing over it. If Mr. Obama were in the mil­i­tary he would have been put on trial by now for trea­son because he took the oath to pro­tect the con­sti­tu­tion and done noth­ing but try and destroy it. Also send­ing aid to gov­ern­ments who hates us and want to destroy us, like Egypt to sup­port the Muslin Broth­er­hood, is an act of treason

Mr. Tay­lor ended his let­ter by say­ing the Tea Party should be work­ing with the Democ­rats there is one major prob­lem with that idea. The Tea Party is fight­ing to save our free­doms while the Democ­rats are fight­ing to destroy our free­doms, to enslave us all on the gov­ern­ment plan­ta­tion. Obama’s way of tak­ing guns away from legal gun own­ers by exec­u­tive order, which he was more than happy to do again, is one way. Dur­ing the Virginia’s con­ven­tion to rat­ify the con­sti­tu­tion in 1788 George Mason the co-author of the sec­ond amend­ment said, “To dis­arm the peo­ple is the best and most effec­tual way to enslave them.”

Dear Edi­tor,

Our hearts go out to the fam­ily of Catharine “Kay” Stout who recently passed away. Kay was an inte­gral part in found­ing of Con­cerned Cit­i­zens Against Vio­lence Against Women, Inc., the com­mit­tee that launched Turn­ing Point. Mar­ion and its sur­round­ing coun­ties are in debt to her for bring­ing the cause to light. Kay received the Susan B. Anthony Award for her vision and also the National Orga­ni­za­tion of Women (NOW) Woman of the Year Award for her work in estab­lish­ing our local shel­ter. We at Turn­ing Point appre­ci­ate her tire­less efforts in the fight against vio­lence against women and hope we make her proud in con­tin­u­ing to work for end­ing vio­lence that plagues so many homes in America.

We unfor­tu­nately see that the fight is long and hard. The recent head­lines have been that of the mur­der of Amy Aldrich who was a vic­tim of domes­tic vio­lence. This loss has deeply affected my staff and the com­mu­nity; it’s dif­fi­cult to read the tes­ti­mony of her fam­ily mem­bers and friends describe what hap­pened that day. There are reports of domes­tic vio­lence in our area daily and they have the poten­tial for lethal con­se­quences. For fis­cal year 2012, we served 974 men, women, and chil­dren in our six county ser­vice area and those are the brave ones who chose to seek help. Amy’s death should be indica­tive that we have a large prob­lem on our hands.

Despite the efforts of Kay Stout and oth­ers , our Con­gress has allowed the Vio­lence Against Women Act (VAWA) to expire and appears to set the exam­ple that vio­lence against women is not an impor­tant agenda for the Amer­i­can peo­ple. It is our hope that 2013 brings them together and rein­states VAWA for the safety and health of our nation.

Since our incep­tion, we have always put client needs first and we still abide by that same motto. We are with clients in court, assist­ing them with civil pro­tec­tion orders. We are in the local schools, teach­ing chil­dren about healthy dat­ing rela­tion­ships. We are always on the other end of the phone, day or night.

Dear Sir or Madam:

If some­one were going down a road, and there were all kinds of signs, say­ing “SLOW DOWN, CLIFF AHEAD” or “WATCH OUT, THERE IS A BRIDGE OUT AHEAD”, one would have to be really stu­pid to keep going at a break­neck speed, not pay­ing atten­tion to the signs, but that is exactly how I see Mr. Obama and his lemming-like fol­low­ers who sup­port him and his poli­cies. There are all kinds of signs as to what his agenda is for America.

He used his Pres­i­den­tial pow­ers to do an end run around the First Amendment’s Free­dom of Reli­gion, by mak­ing the insur­ance com­pa­nies respon­si­ble for fur­nish­ing birth con­trol for enti­ties who objected, because of their Reli­gious Beliefs,

Then he threat­ens the mid­dle class that if Con­gress doesn’t go along with rais­ing taxes on the rich, every­one will have to pay more, which Con­gress finally did, only to real­ize that the Fis­cal Cliff had noth­ing to do with pre­vent­ing pay­roll deduc­tions from ris­ing and the mid­dle class again bit the bullet.

Then Vice Pres­i­dent Biden hints that if Con­gress doesn’t fol­low Mr. Obama’s call to raise the debt ceil­ing, the Pres­i­dent should again use his Pres­i­den­tial Pow­ers to bypass Con­gress and raise the debt ceil­ing him­self, along with enact­ing other mea­sures that would void our Sec­ond Amend­ment right to bear arms. Speak­ing of which, if the mother in Geor­gia who was defend­ing her home hadn’t had a gun and knew how to use it, her hus­band would have been attend­ing her and their children’s funer­als, period.

One of his min­ions, Gov­er­nor Quomo, has sug­gested the rad­i­cal idea of Con­fis­ca­tion of Weapons and N.Y. Sen­a­tor Schumer sug­gested hav­ing a back­ground check for buy­ing ammu­ni­tion. Both of these ideas are ludi­crous and asi­nine and are only fuel­ing people’s fear that you can’t trust the Gov­ern­ment and that is why there is such a rush to buy any kind of weapon and all of the ammu­ni­tion they can get.

All of the rhetoric put out by the Left about gun vio­lence, instead of curb­ing gun sales, has only caused them to go through the ceiling.

All of these are signs that Amer­ica is becom­ing an Amer­ica unlike any­thing our founders had intended, and we should change course as soon as possible.

Mr. Obama is so arro­gant and, instead of being grate­ful that he has been reelected by so many blind sheep and has been given another chance to per­haps improve his until now stained legacy by try­ing to com­pro­mise with the Con­gress in Gen­eral and the Repub­li­cans, in par­tic­u­lar, has only embold­ened him to the point that he believes him­self to be some kind of Impe­r­ial Leader, whose way is the only way and he would be per­fectly happy if the entire Con­sti­tu­tion were done away with.

To the Editor,

Recently a head­line read “Con­gress must act soon on guns, Obama says”. Mr. Obama also said, “and a major­ity of the Amer­i­can peo­ple agree with me. “(do they really?). These state­ments were prompted by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Ele­men­tary School in New­town, Con­necti­cut, where 20 chil­dren were killed. The Pres­i­dent has redou­bled his push to reduce gun vio­lence, pres­sur­ing Con­gress to “act soon to pro­tect our chil­dren.” Is it for sav­ing chil­dren that our gov­ern­ment should pass gun laws? In the last year alone our gov­ern­ment has sanc­tioned the killing of over one mil­lion babies (chil­dren) in the womb, a vio­la­tion of one of our basic rights — the right to life from con­cep­tion to nat­ural death (as stated in The Dec­la­ra­tion of Inde­pen­dence “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are cre­ated equal, that they are endowed by their Cre­ator with cer­tain unalien­able Rights that among these are Life, Lib­erty and the Pur­suit of Hap­pi­ness.”). Or is it as Rahm Emanuel said “You never want a seri­ous cri­sis to go to waste”? Think about it. Is it every time there is a notable shoot­ing stated repeat­edly in the news that the pro­gres­sives in the gov­ern­ment want to take away or con­trol guns?

Mr. Obama said “Like most Amer­i­cans, I believe the Sec­ond Amend­ment guar­an­tees an indi­vid­ual right to bear arms,” “but I also believe most gun own­ers agree that we can respect the Sec­ond Amend­ment while keep­ing an irre­spon­si­ble, law-breaking few from caus­ing harm on a mas­sive scale.” He added, “it’s time for Con­gress to require a uni­ver­sal back­ground check for any­one try­ing to buy a gun”. In addi­tion, his last point was that there should be a ban on assault weapons.

Do you believe a crim­i­nal or some­one with men­tal prob­lems is going to a gun store to buy his weapons? What is an assault weapon? An axe, a base­ball bat, a knife, a ham­mer or most any­thing else some­one would find handy. If any gun is not an assault weapon then it is not a very good gun.

Our Sec­ond Amend­ment guar­an­tees an individual’s right to bear arms. This right was not a guar­an­tee by the founders for the peo­ple to go hunt­ing. The Sec­ond Amend­ment guar­an­tees that “WE the Peo­ple” can defend our­selves from a tyran­ni­cal gov­ern­ment against which they had just won a war.
