The Northmor Board of Education met for their annual organizational meeting Thursday, January 3 to select officers and set meeting dates for 2013.

Regular annual
business
The board approved to establish a Service Fund for the Board of Education for professional meetings in the amount of $3,000.00. Most of the costs go toward the Ohio School Board Association’s 3-Day Annual Capital Conference in Columbus at the convention center, attended by the board and school administrators for purposes of professional development.
Also accepted were the tax rates and amounts from the County Auditor.
The Treasurer is authorized to:
Request advances on local taxes as available and needed; pay all bills as they are presented provided funds are available and to report monthly to the Board of Education those bills that have been paid; and invest inactive funds in Certificates of Deposit in the eligible bank or banks submitting the highest rate of interest for each proposed investment or invest in Treasury Bills or Notes or Star Ohio in compliance with the applicable statutes.
The Superintendent is authorized to: act as Purchasing Agent for the Northmor Local School District and assign the Superintendent the responsibility for the quality and quantity of purchases made. (The primary guidelines governing this responsibility are that all purchases fall within the framework of budgetary appropriations and that they be consistent with the approved educational goals and programs of the district.); Employ temporary personnel as needed. Such employments will then be presented for approval by the board at their next regular meeting; accept written resignations between Board Meetings as needed. Such resignations will then be presented for approval by the Board at the next meeting; and appoint building secretaries responsible for collecting and preparing deposits of moneys from their buildings.
Discussion and assignment of Board Committees
The state auditor’s office strongly suggested the school have an audit committee, usually comprised of the treasurer, board president and the superintendent of the school. These committees meet quarterly to review past audits and what the recommendations from the auditor’s office are. Tim Bachelder, Carlyle Smith and Treasurer Tina Gabler were appointed to serve on the committee.
In the regular meeting session, Supt. Dr. Brent Winand noted January is School Board Recognition Month and presented each board member with a certificate of appreciation for exemplary leadership and service to public schools.’
“We’re very fortunate here to have board members that are dedicated, and have been for a long time,” Winand said. He noted Carlyle Smith has served on the board for 24 years, Dan Sipes for 20 years, Peggy Bosh for 13 years, Jeff Whisler for 9 years and Tim Bachelder for 5 years.
“I believe just as an athlete or scholar gets better with the time they give to their focus, they get sounder, better and become more knowlegable. I believe that’s why things go as smoothly as they do.knowledgeableople tend to forget this board is responsible for a $15 million budget. There’s some pressure that goes with that kind of work.”
The board accepted the resignation of Kathy Eichorn as a bus driver for the Northmor Local School District effective December 21, 2012. Mrs. Eichorn has served the Northmor Local School District for over twenty years.
The next regular Northmor Board of Education meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Northmor Board of Education Meeting Room.
