Highland celebrates Winter Homecoming 2013

Adri­ane Swet­land was crowned High­land High School’s Win­ter Home­com­ing queen, and Evan Webb was crowned king at home­com­ing cer­e­monies on Feb. 6. High­land Stu­dent Coun­cil spon­sored the activ­i­ties of the home­com­ing cer­e­mony and the dance, which all took place on Feb. 6. The cer­e­mony was held in between the var­sity and junior var­sity games at the boys’ bas­ket­ball game ver­sus North Union, with the dance fol­low­ing the game.

Adri­ane is the daugh­ter of Todd and Son­dra Swet­land and was escorted by her father. Adri­ane par­tic­i­pates in cross coun­try and track, and her many activ­i­ties include being sec­re­tary of Stu­dent Coun­cil, mem­ber of National Honor Soci­ety, and being an honor roll stu­dent for four years. Adriane’s hob­bies include trav­el­ing, swim­ming, run­ning, and most impor­tantly, being High­land Boys Basketball’s Num­ber One Fan! She plans to attend The Ohio State University’s main cam­pus to study Phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal Sciences.

Evan Webb is the son of Phil and Mary Beth Webb and was escorted by his mom. Evan par­tic­i­pates in cross coun­try, bas­ket­ball, and base­ball, as well as play­ing for the Prospect Legion Base­ball Team. He has been involved in 4-H, the OHSAA Lead­er­ship Con­fer­ence and Hugh O’Brien Youth Lead­er­ship Con­fer­ence, and the Safe Dri­ving Pro­gram. He is also a stu­dent coun­cil mem­ber and pres­i­dent of the Busi­ness Acad­emy. Evan enjoys work­ing on old trucks and help­ing friends fix their vehi­cles. In his future, he plans to attend Wit­ten­burg or OSU and major in business.

Senior mem­bers of the court were Eleni Con­nors, Shawn Gray, Shelby San­tille, and Nick Shiv­ers. Con­nors is the daugh­ter of John and Karey Con­nors and was escorted by her brother, David. She par­tic­i­pates in soc­cer and is also the stu­dent coun­cil pres­i­dent, as well as being a mem­ber of the National Honor Soci­ety. In Eleni’s spare time, she enjoys swim­ming and singing with friends. Her future plans are to attend The Ohio State Uni­ver­sity where she will pur­sue a career in the field of biology.

Gray is the son of Harold and Sue Cochran and was escorted by his mom. Shawn plays tight end and defen­sive end in foot­ball and is a sprinter for the Fly­ing Scots. Shawn received All-Ohio Hon­or­able Men­tion in foot­ball. In his future, Shawn is still in the process of mak­ing a plan, but when he comes up with one, he knows it will be good!

San­tille is the daugh­ter of Steve and Denise San­tille and was escorted by her dad. Shelby plays bas­ket­ball for the Lady Scots. Her hob­bies include hang­ing out with friends and fam­ily, and she has a spe­cial inter­est in pho­tog­ra­phy. Shelby’s future plans are to attend Wright State Uni­ver­sity, and her major is cur­rently undecided.

Shiv­ers is the son of Robert and Tina Shiv­ers and was escorted by his mother. Nick par­tic­i­pates in foot­ball and base­ball for the Fight­ing Scots. He espe­cially enjoys work­ing out, play­ing bas­ket­ball, and hang­ing out with friends and fam­ily. In his future, Nick plans to attend a 4-year col­lege to major in sports train­ing. He also hopes to play foot­ball at whichever col­lege he chooses. Crown­ing the king was Stu­dent Coun­cil Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Abby Gar­cia. She is the daugh­ter of Lee and Bernadette Ruck­man and was escorted by her step-dad, Lee. Abby par­tic­i­pates in both vol­ley­ball and bas­ket­ball for the Lady Scots. She is a mem­ber of the National Honor Soci­ety and the High­land Stu­dent Coun­cil. Abby enjoys hang­ing out with friends, doing hair, and watch­ing Grey’s Anatomy. She plans to attend The Ohio State University’s main cam­pus to pur­sue a degree in nurs­ing, with a minor in Span­ish, then she plans to attend med­ical school to become a pediatrician.

Stu­dent Coun­cil Vice-President, Saman­tha Den­man, had the honor of crown­ing Adri­ane. Den­man is the daugh­ter of Dwight and Angie Gat­ton and was escorted by her father. She par­tic­i­pates in many activ­i­ties, includ­ing National Honor Soci­ety and High­land Stu­dent Coun­cil, and she was Stu­dent of the Month for the Mor­row County Cham­ber of Com­merce. Saman­tha espe­cially enjoys watch­ing Gray’s Anatomy with her dog, Mocha. In the future, she plans to attend The Ohio State Uni­ver­sity to become a pedi­atric nurse.

Other court mem­bers were Quen­ton Miller, Ash­ley Koob, Jacob Brown, Austin LaFever, Katie Lloyd, Thomas Wheeler, and Paige Cole.

Miller was one of the junior class rep­re­sen­ta­tives. He is the son of Christo­pher and Eliz­a­beth Miller and was escorted by his mom. Quen­ton par­tic­i­pates in many activ­i­ties at High­land, includ­ing foot­ball, soc­cer, and track. His spe­cial inter­ests include get­ting his GTL on!! Quen­ton plans to attend The Ohio State Uni­ver­sity to become an ortho­pe­dic foot sur­geon, and he dreams of play­ing soc­cer one day for the Colum­bus Crew.

Junior rep­re­sen­ta­tive, Ash­ley Koob, is the daugh­ter of Ronald and Donna Mor­lan and was escorted by her father. She plays the drums for the Fight­ing Scots March­ing Band. She also par­tic­i­pates in In The Know and is a mem­ber of the Peer Medi­a­tion Team. In her spare time, Ash­ley enjoys play­ing video games. In the future, she dreams of becom­ing a comedian.

Jacob Brown was one of the sopho­more rep­re­sen­ta­tives, and he is the son of Vince and Sonia Brown. He was escorted by his mother. Jacob plays cen­ter and mid­dle line­backer for the Scots’ foot­ball team. He is an active mem­ber of the Sparta Methodist Church and par­tic­i­pates in FFA. In the future, Jacob plans on attend­ing col­lege and major­ing in ath­letic training.

Our other sopho­more rep­re­sen­ta­tive, Austin LaFever, is the son of Johnny and Kate LaFever. His mother escorted him. Austin is involved in wrestling and base­ball for the Scots. His other activ­i­ties include the High­land JROTC, stu­dent coun­cil, and the The­ater Arts Pro­gram at High­land. In his spare time, Austin likes spend­ing time with fam­ily and friends and enjoys going to High­land sport­ing events. He plans on join­ing the mil­i­tary for four years and then pur­su­ing a career in law enforcement.

Our female sopho­more rep­re­sen­ta­tive was Katie Lloyd, daugh­ter of Robby and Dawn Lloyd. She was escorted by her father. Katie is a mem­ber of the Lady Scots vol­ley­ball team, and she is also active in the High­land FFA. Out­side of school, Katie enjoys show­ing hogs at the Mor­row County Fair. Katie’s plans are to attend a four year college.

Fresh­man rep­re­sen­ta­tives were Thomas Wheeler and Paige Cole. Wheeler is the son of William and Stacey Wheeler and was escorted by his mom. William par­tic­i­pates in bas­ket­ball for the Fight­ing Scots as a guard. In his spare time, William enjoys fish­ing, bas­ket­ball, and of course….great food! He plans to attend Mur­ray State Uni­ver­sity for Col­le­giate Bass Fishing.

Paige Cole is the daugh­ter of Paul and Michelle Cole and Lynn Den­man and she was escorted by her dad. Paige is very involved in the ath­let­ics’ pro­gram, play­ing vol­ley­ball, bas­ket­ball, and soft­ball. She is also a mem­ber of stu­dent coun­cil. In her free time, Paige enjoys trav­el­ing, shop­ping, and hang­ing out with friends. Her future plans are to attend the Uni­ver­sity of Ten­nessee to play soft­ball and major in business.
