Highland celebrates Winter Homecoming 2013
Adriane Swetland was crowned Highland High School’s Winter Homecoming queen, and Evan Webb was crowned king at homecoming ceremonies on Feb. 6. Highland Student Council sponsored the activities of the homecoming ceremony and the dance, which all took place on Feb. 6. The ceremony was held in between the varsity and junior varsity games at the boys’ basketball game versus North Union, with the dance following the game.
Adriane is the daughter of Todd and Sondra Swetland and was escorted by her father. Adriane participates in cross country and track, and her many activities include being secretary of Student Council, member of National Honor Society, and being an honor roll student for four years. Adriane’s hobbies include traveling, swimming, running, and most importantly, being Highland Boys Basketball’s Number One Fan! She plans to attend The Ohio State University’s main campus to study Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Evan Webb is the son of Phil and Mary Beth Webb and was escorted by his mom. Evan participates in cross country, basketball, and baseball, as well as playing for the Prospect Legion Baseball Team. He has been involved in 4-H, the OHSAA Leadership Conference and Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference, and the Safe Driving Program. He is also a student council member and president of the Business Academy. Evan enjoys working on old trucks and helping friends fix their vehicles. In his future, he plans to attend Wittenburg or OSU and major in business.
Senior members of the court were Eleni Connors, Shawn Gray, Shelby Santille, and Nick Shivers. Connors is the daughter of John and Karey Connors and was escorted by her brother, David. She participates in soccer and is also the student council president, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society. In Eleni’s spare time, she enjoys swimming and singing with friends. Her future plans are to attend The Ohio State University where she will pursue a career in the field of biology.
Gray is the son of Harold and Sue Cochran and was escorted by his mom. Shawn plays tight end and defensive end in football and is a sprinter for the Flying Scots. Shawn received All-Ohio Honorable Mention in football. In his future, Shawn is still in the process of making a plan, but when he comes up with one, he knows it will be good!
Santille is the daughter of Steve and Denise Santille and was escorted by her dad. Shelby plays basketball for the Lady Scots. Her hobbies include hanging out with friends and family, and she has a special interest in photography. Shelby’s future plans are to attend Wright State University, and her major is currently undecided.
Shivers is the son of Robert and Tina Shivers and was escorted by his mother. Nick participates in football and baseball for the Fighting Scots. He especially enjoys working out, playing basketball, and hanging out with friends and family. In his future, Nick plans to attend a 4-year college to major in sports training. He also hopes to play football at whichever college he chooses. Crowning the king was Student Council Representative Abby Garcia. She is the daughter of Lee and Bernadette Ruckman and was escorted by her step-dad, Lee. Abby participates in both volleyball and basketball for the Lady Scots. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Highland Student Council. Abby enjoys hanging out with friends, doing hair, and watching Grey’s Anatomy. She plans to attend The Ohio State University’s main campus to pursue a degree in nursing, with a minor in Spanish, then she plans to attend medical school to become a pediatrician.
Student Council Vice-President, Samantha Denman, had the honor of crowning Adriane. Denman is the daughter of Dwight and Angie Gatton and was escorted by her father. She participates in many activities, including National Honor Society and Highland Student Council, and she was Student of the Month for the Morrow County Chamber of Commerce. Samantha especially enjoys watching Gray’s Anatomy with her dog, Mocha. In the future, she plans to attend The Ohio State University to become a pediatric nurse.
Other court members were Quenton Miller, Ashley Koob, Jacob Brown, Austin LaFever, Katie Lloyd, Thomas Wheeler, and Paige Cole.
Miller was one of the junior class representatives. He is the son of Christopher and Elizabeth Miller and was escorted by his mom. Quenton participates in many activities at Highland, including football, soccer, and track. His special interests include getting his GTL on!! Quenton plans to attend The Ohio State University to become an orthopedic foot surgeon, and he dreams of playing soccer one day for the Columbus Crew.
Junior representative, Ashley Koob, is the daughter of Ronald and Donna Morlan and was escorted by her father. She plays the drums for the Fighting Scots Marching Band. She also participates in In The Know and is a member of the Peer Mediation Team. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys playing video games. In the future, she dreams of becoming a comedian.
Jacob Brown was one of the sophomore representatives, and he is the son of Vince and Sonia Brown. He was escorted by his mother. Jacob plays center and middle linebacker for the Scots’ football team. He is an active member of the Sparta Methodist Church and participates in FFA. In the future, Jacob plans on attending college and majoring in athletic training.
Our other sophomore representative, Austin LaFever, is the son of Johnny and Kate LaFever. His mother escorted him. Austin is involved in wrestling and baseball for the Scots. His other activities include the Highland JROTC, student council, and the Theater Arts Program at Highland. In his spare time, Austin likes spending time with family and friends and enjoys going to Highland sporting events. He plans on joining the military for four years and then pursuing a career in law enforcement.
Our female sophomore representative was Katie Lloyd, daughter of Robby and Dawn Lloyd. She was escorted by her father. Katie is a member of the Lady Scots volleyball team, and she is also active in the Highland FFA. Outside of school, Katie enjoys showing hogs at the Morrow County Fair. Katie’s plans are to attend a four year college.
Freshman representatives were Thomas Wheeler and Paige Cole. Wheeler is the son of William and Stacey Wheeler and was escorted by his mom. William participates in basketball for the Fighting Scots as a guard. In his spare time, William enjoys fishing, basketball, and of course….great food! He plans to attend Murray State University for Collegiate Bass Fishing.
Paige Cole is the daughter of Paul and Michelle Cole and Lynn Denman and she was escorted by her dad. Paige is very involved in the athletics’ program, playing volleyball, basketball, and softball. She is also a member of student council. In her free time, Paige enjoys traveling, shopping, and hanging out with friends. Her future plans are to attend the University of Tennessee to play softball and major in business.
