Hines rejoins Mt. Gilead council

Kay Hines has been appointed to fill the seat vacated by Dianne Matuch on the Mt. Gilead Vil­lage Coun­cil. She was sworn in Mon­day evening by Vil­lage Solic­i­tor Matt Grif­fith and comes to the posi­tion with 12 years of pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence on council.

Hines is enthu­si­atic and glad to be back with both famil­iar and new faces.

“I came back because I wanted to give the Vil­lage of Mt. Gilead my skills and assets that I have to offer,” she said after Mon­day evening’s meet­ing. “Also, I’m very con­cerned about the fire levy and I want to see that fol­lowed through with a pas­sage, because it affects every res­i­dent who owns prop­erty in Mt. Gilead.”

Hines will head up the Fire and Police Com­mit­tee for vil­lage council.

She got her start years ago on the recre­ation board, where she served for about 18 months.

“Then a posi­tion became avail­able and I ran for coun­cil,” she said, where she served from 1992 through 2004. She has since served on sev­eral local boards.

When the term for her seat expires Decem­ber 31 of this year, Hines said she intends to run to retain it.
