New season begins at Mid-Ohio School

The Mid-Ohio School’s 20th Anniversary Season began Saturday, March 16 with a Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program. The sold out class was the first of over 160 on the school’s schedule that serves everyone from teenagers to seasoned drivers and sportbike riders.

A highlight of this year’s driving programs is the new fleet of 2013 Acura ILXs set to debut. Thirty-seven Acura ILXs are being prepped for the first Acura High Performance Course on April 23. The cars are modified for safety and handling and feature the 6-speed 2.4L engine producing 201hp.

It’s a tribute to the great support from American Honda that we’re celebrating our 20th Anniversary. Our partnership spanning two decades is unprecedented in the performance driving school industry,” said Steve Bidlack, director of The Mid-Ohio School. “The Acura ILX is going to be a fast, fun car for our participants to drive. New to this fleet is an aftermarket Honda Performance Development braking kit for an even higher performing vehicle on the racetrack.”

In addition to the new ILXs, two 2013 Honda Civic Sedans will serve as the new skid cars. Later this year, an entire fleet of 2013 Honda Civics will replace the 2006 models for the Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program.

Though the public schedule begins this week, The Mid-Ohio School has been busy already this year as the site of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s (OSP) 2013 Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC).

It started this month with two Train-the-Trainer days where The Mid-Ohio School instructors helped familiarize the OSP training staff with the facility and enhance the EVOC curriculum. Hundreds of OSP troopers from across the state are completing their EVOC training in March and April at Mid-Ohio.

The 2013 schedule powered by Westfield Insurance, features 140-plus driving dates and 21 Performance Track Riding motorcycle days. It can be found in its entirety at midohioschool.com.

Last season was a banner year for The Mid-Ohio School as it trained over 5,500 participants, including 2,400 teens and 1,500 motorcycle riders. The school eclipsed the 50,000 mark all time during the second half of 2012.

The Mid-Ohio School is supported by American Honda, Westfield Insurance, Honda Performance Development, Sunoco, Diamond Cellar, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn & Suites, Presta Performance Products and Coca-Cola. The school is also partners in safety with AAA and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
