Youth wrestling club has good season
The Mount Vernon Killer Bees Wrestling Club is coming to an end of another fine wrestling season.
The season is finishing with a record number of state tournament participants. There are two organizations within Ohio that holds a state tournament in which each wrestler must qualify for to participate.
The Killer Bees team qualified 13 for the OAC state tournament to be held in Youngstown on March 16 and 17. The team also qualified 13 wrestlers for the OHIOway state tournament on March 23 in Tiffin.
The team has a total of 18 different wrestlers who qualified for at least one of the state tournaments. They had a total of 10 district or regional champions. The team will be sending seven returning state placers and 12 wrestlers having previous state tournament experience while 6 will be competing for their first time at the state tournament.
In addition the team had four wrestlers selected to the OAC All Ohio team. This happens to be the most from any single team this year.
The team has accumulated over 800 wins throughout the year and accomplished over 100 individual championships at various tournaments during the season.
The program has been in existence for six years and continued to grow each year with emphasis on fundamental techniques of wrestling while instilling both mental and physical skills that will be carried throughout each individual’s lifetime. The coaching staff and families would like to congratulate each participant for another stellar season.
