Youth wrestling club has good season

The Mount Ver­non Killer Bees Wrestling Club is com­ing to an end of another fine wrestling season.

The sea­son is fin­ish­ing with a record num­ber of state tour­na­ment par­tic­i­pants. There are two orga­ni­za­tions within Ohio that holds a state tour­na­ment in which each wrestler must qual­ify for to participate.

The Killer Bees team qual­i­fied 13 for the OAC state tour­na­ment to be held in Youngstown on March 16 and 17. The team also qual­i­fied 13 wrestlers for the OHIOway state tour­na­ment on March 23 in Tiffin.

The team has a total of 18 dif­fer­ent wrestlers who qual­i­fied for at least one of the state tour­na­ments. They had a total of 10 dis­trict or regional cham­pi­ons. The team will be send­ing seven return­ing state plac­ers and 12 wrestlers hav­ing pre­vi­ous state tour­na­ment expe­ri­ence while 6 will be com­pet­ing for their first time at the state tournament.

In addi­tion the team had four wrestlers selected to the OAC All Ohio team. This hap­pens to be the most from any sin­gle team this year.

The team has accu­mu­lated over 800 wins through­out the year and accom­plished over 100 indi­vid­ual cham­pi­onships at var­i­ous tour­na­ments dur­ing the season.

The pro­gram has been in exis­tence for six years and con­tin­ued to grow each year with empha­sis on fun­da­men­tal tech­niques of wrestling while instill­ing both men­tal and phys­i­cal skills that will be car­ried through­out each individual’s life­time. The coach­ing staff and fam­i­lies would like to con­grat­u­late each par­tic­i­pant for another stel­lar season.
