Mt. Gilead Class of 1953 holds fall reunion

The Mount Gilead High School Class of 1953 celebrated its 60th reunion Saturday evening, October 26, 2013.

It was organized by Jack Sweeney, Jack Wallace and Jean Mosher. A buffet dinner was held at The Cornerstone on the Square Cafe and Grill in Mt. Gilead.

David Cover acted as master of ceremonies, Bill Rinehart gave the invocation, and Esther Powell McGee conducted a memorial service for the deceased members, which include: Phil La Roche, Jim Robinson, Janet Andrews Fahl, Jake Belt, Don Byrd, Neil Sipe, Ronald Reed, Marjory Zinn Brown, Don ‘Ted” Hayes, Jim Mosher, Keith Evans, Chris Benton, Jim Richardson and Homer Ingmire. The remainder of the evening was spent socially. The class decided to have their next reunion in October of 2015.

Class members attending from Mount Gilead were: Portia Detrow Keil, Wilford Keil, Jack and Ann Sweeney, Dorothy Sipes Clark and Bill Phillips, Martha Philbrook Jividen and George Jividen, and a guest, Wilma Hayes. Attending from out-of-state were: Carolyn Smith Barnett and Frank Barnett. Others attending from elsewhere in Ohio: Phil Hatfield from Cardington, Jerry and Sharon Shambaugh from Urbana; Jeannine Potts Kinsey and Jim Kinsey from Carey; Leta Rathburn Lawhead and Bud Lawhead from Marion; David and Fran Cover from Edison; Bill and Roxanne Rinehart from Bloomdale; Darleen Klingel Vail and Mack Vail from Bloomville; Jack Wallace, Esther Powell McGee and Bill McGee, and Jean Mosher from Columbus, Ohio.
