Update Jan. 6, 2014 - A two-vehicle accident on Saturday about 12:18 p.m. in Bennington Twp. resulted in multiple injuries, with one patient transported to a Columbus hospital by Med Flight.
John Baruth, 42, Powell, was traveling westbound in a 2009 White Ford Lincoln on SR 229 when he lost control, went left of center and was struck by an eastbound maroon Hyundai Sonata driven by John Cantrell, 64, Columbus.
Baruth was wearing his seat belt and suffered non incapacitating injuries; he was transported by EMS to Riverside Hospital. Passenger Michelle Willis, 34, Albequerque, NM was transferred by Medflight to Grant Medical Center. A four-year-old child in a booster seat was transported to Riverside with possible injuries.
Cantrell suffered non incapacitating injuries and was transported by Delaware EMS to Riverside Hospital. He and his passenger Barbara Cantrell, 59, Columbus, were wearing seat belts. She also suffered non incapacitating injuries and was also transported by Delaware EMS to Riverside Hospital.
Post 59 of the Highway Patrol noted blowing and drifting snow of 3-4” in the area contributed to the accident. EMS removed both doors on the Lincoln to extricate passengers.
Citations are pending as the investigation continues.
Jan. 4, 2014 - A two-vehicle accident on Saturday resulted in multiple injuries, with one patient transported to by Med Flight.
Witnesses at the scene report that a 2009 White Ford Lincoln was traveling west bound near 5708 State Route 229 when it lost control on a curve about 12:18 p.m. The vehicle traveled left of center and was struck broadside by a Maroon Hyundai Sonata.
Three occupants of the Lincoln were transported to local hospitals, one was transported via Med flight. An unknown number of occupants of the Hyundai were also transported.
The accident is under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Also responding to the scene were units from Big Walnut Joint Fire District, Morrow County EMS, and Delaware County EMS.
This is a preliminary report pending the official report by the Ohio State Highway Patrol post 59.
