Republican Women membership kickoff is Jan. 15

Morrow County Republican Women membership kickoff meeting will be Thursday, January 15th at 7 p.m. at the Community Service Building, 619 W. Marion Road, Mt Gilead. Our speaker will be Jeanne Bolton, Central District Vice-president for the OFRW. There will be door prizes and refreshments for the evening. Please come and bring a friend and join us.

C-L Winter Sports Night is Jan. 17

The Cardington-Lincoln High School Winter Sports Night will be held Friday, January 17 when the Pirate basketball team will host the Fredericktown Freddies. The ceremony will be held at approximately 7 pm, between the JV game which begins at 6 pm, and the varsity game. The court and king and queen candidates will be published in the January 15 issue of the Morrow County Sentinel.

Harmony Chapel’s Country Breakfast Buffet is Jan. 19

Harmony Chapel UMC will hold their winter Country Breakfast Buffet on Sunday, January 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eggs are featured in casseroles, scrambled, deviled, and made-to-order omelets. Menu also includes breakfast breads, pancakes, biscuits and sausage gravy, meats, fresh fruit, and PIE. The church is located six miles east of Mt. Gilead and one mile south of SR 95 on CR 20. A freewill donation will be collected. An elevator for the handicapped is available.

Marengo Seniors Carry-In coming up Jan. 20

This is an invitation to join the Marengo Seniors Carry-In, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Noon. We meet at the Legion Hall just north of Marengo on County Rd. 26. Please bring a side dish or a dessert! Next TEA Party meeting will be Jan. 20

The next Morrow County TEA Party (a non-partisan organization) meeting will be Monday, January 20. All interested people should attend at 7:00 p.m. in the Mount Gilead Library Annex, 34 E. High Street, in the rear.

Northmor BOE to hold special mtg. Jan. 21

The Northmor Board of Education will hold a Special Board Meeting Tuesday January 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Northmor Board Meeting Room, 5247 County Road 29, Galion.

Mt. Gilead BOE to hold special mtg. Jan. 21

The Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools will be holding a special Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the board room located at 145 North Cherry Street.

Annual SOC board meeting is Jan. 23

Morrow County Services for Older Citizens, Inc. will be holding their Annual Board Meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 12:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room at 41 W. Center St. Mt. Gilead, Ohio. Next Bloodmobile is Jan. 18

January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. Say thanks to someone you know who regularly donates blood. Call the Morrow County Chapter of the American Red Cross today to schedule an appointment for the next bloodmobile. When you give blood, it gives someone a chance to make a full recovery and lead a full life. Donating blood is safe and easy, doesn’t cost money, and it could save a life. Democratic Womens Club to meet Feb. 4

The Morrow County Democratic Women’s Club will be meeting at Hatfield’s Kitchen at 47 S Main St in Mt. Gilead on Tuesday, Feb. 4th. The DWC welcomes any new members and encourages support for local candidates.

Volunteer L:ibrary Trustee sought

The Cardington-Lincoln Public Library has a vacancy for a library trustee with a 7-year term beginning January 1, 2014. This is a volunteer position. Interested Cardington-Lincoln School District residents should send a cover letter accompanied by a resume or other statement of qualifications to the President Board of Trustees, Cardington-Lincoln Public Library, P.O. Box 38, Cardington, OH 43315. Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2014 or until the position is filled.

Selover Library hosts homeschool book club

Selover Public Library in Chesterville will host the Choose Your Own Book Club for homeschool families again this year. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 1:15 p.m. in the community room.

TOPS meets on Monday evenings

T.O.P.S - Take Off Pounds Sensibly- is a non profit organization that meets every Monday night at the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church. Weigh-in begins at 4:30 p.m. and meeting starts at 5:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information call Linda at 419-946-9326.

Marengo MOPS meets 1st, 3rd Fridays monthly

Marengo MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meets from 9:30-11:30 am, the first and third Fridays of the month from September to May. Moms’ Connection meets two Thursdays monthly

Moms’ Connection of Morrow County meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, 9:30-11:30 AM. Join us at Trinity UMC, 75 E. High St, Mt Gilead. We provide free childcare for children ages birth through 5th grade so moms can have a little ‘mommy time’. Voices for Morrow County meet every 3rd Tuesday

Voices of Morrow County is a club which meets to provide Morrow County citizens with informative and educational programs about social justice issues. The club meets the third Tuesday each month at the Community Services Bldg., 619 W. Marion Rd., Entrance B.

No Limits Giveaway a success!

No Limits Outreach Center’s Christmas Give-A-Way was a huge success due to the generosity of the community. We supplied gifts / food for 190+ people. The food pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We are averaging 8-10 new clients a week. Due to the economy the need keeps growing. The Center is open Monday-Friday 9-3 for donations of food/money. We are located at the end of Vine Street, Edison.

Read Books? Good, bad or unfinished? Come tell us about them - and hear about what others are reading - or deciding NOT to read. A book group meets and shares at the Mount Gilead Library the 3rd Tuesday of each month 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Breastfeeding Support and Information 1st Wed. of month

Planning to breastfeed? Then you’ll want the information and encouragement that La Leche League provides. Services are Free and include monthly informational meetings, and 24 hour phone help for breastfeeding problems or questions. All pregnant women, mothers, and their babies are welcome. Meetings are at the Perry Cook Memorial Public Library in Johnsville/Shauck - 7406 Road 242 . Meetings are the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm. Friends of Cardington meets 3rd Tuesday monthly

Friends of Cardington meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6 pm in the Cardington Municipal Building council chambers.

Narcotics Anonymous meets Monday and Friday

Narcotics Anonymous meetings are being held on Monday nights from 5:00-6:00 pm and Friday nights from 4:00-5:00 pm in Mt. Gilead at the RPR/Mental Health Building, 950 Meadow Drive.

Friday Night Faith & Hope Group meets weekly

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Friday night, 8-9 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 75 S. Cherry St., Mount Gilead. There is also an Al-Anon (family of alcoholics) meeting held separately.

Divorce counseling offered in Fredericktown

Nar-Anon meets on Mondays weekly

Nar-Anon meets weekly – provides a support group of strength and hope for family and friends of drug addicts. The anonymity of the drug-abuser and family is respected. Coupon club meets 1st, 3rd Tuesdays monthly

Dance held every Saturday in Marion

A Singles and Couples Dance is held each Saturday from 8-12 p.m. at Sawyer Ludwig Park in the Shrine Building at 1313 White Oaks Rd., Marion. Admission is $7 for adults. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are available. No smoking.

Elm Valley Joint F.D. meets second Monday

The Elm Valley Joint Fire District monthly meeting is held the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at 3 N. Harrison St., Ashley, in the firehouse.

Veterans Services meet third Wednesday monthly

The Veterans Service Commission will meet at 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month with the exception of November’s meeting which will be held on the second Wednesday at 10 a.m. The public is welcome.

The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office is now registered with to provide phone text and email alerts. This is a free service to provide citizens with immediate notification of emergencies and vital information. Anyone wishing to receive these alerts should visit the Nixle website at and follow the instructions for registering. While Nixle does not charge for this service, persons may be billed by their phone provider as with any text message.
