After being stuck with a roof of shingles you can pick up with one finger, and a roofer who doesn’t respond to problems, and who will not tell me or the Better Business Bureau what brand of shingles he used so I can check with the manufacturers about a warranty, and after contacting local law enforcement about a “complaint pattern” for roofer, they told me to contact Ohio law makers.
I contacted Representative Jeffrey McClain to tell him there needs to be a law requiring roofing contractors to give customers, in writing, the brand of shingles used so a customer can contact the manufacturer. His office called me. I appreciated that.
Also I contacted Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Consumer Protection Division. They sent me a “Citizen’s Guide to Small Claims Court.” This guide informs you how to file a claim and that you have a right to ask for a ‘reconsideration request” if hearing is not in your favor.
Also how to get help in collecting money if hearing is in your favor. I received this “guide” after the hearing. Too late for me.
Please people, I repeat, get in writing the brand of shingles used on your roof so you can contact the manufacturer, if necessary, under warranty. My shingles were not on one year before problems.
Also ask for your “Citizens Guide to Small Claims Court” BEFORE a hearing and be sure to have EXPERT PROOF.
If you have had similar problems with roofers, contact the Better Business Bureau and local and state law makers.
I have heard this problem with roofers goes on all the time. Lets band together and stop this. Speak up. We need this law to protect ourselves. For roofers to give customers in writing, the brand of shingles used. The roofers need held responsible.
