Three generations of Harruffs are All-Ohio

January 21, 2014

It started on the 1970 Cardington Pirates championship team, coached by Ken Fisher. Carl Harruff played linebacker and made All-Ohio. 1970 was before the playoffs and there were only three divisions. Harruff also had two brothers who played for Cardington, Kevin and Kent. He married Paula Mills and they had three sons who played for Highland.

Twenty-one years later, Carl Harruff II played for the Highland Scots, coached by Howard Zody, and made All-Ohio in football. He also had two brothers, Justin and Keith, who also played for Highland.

Now, 43 years after the eldest Harruff made All-Ohio, his grandson, Austin Strickland-Harruff made All-Ohio in football. Austin, the son of Keith Harruff, played defensive line for the Mount Gilead Indians, coached by Jason Ross. During his senior year with the Indians, he had 53 tackles for a loss and caused 10 fumbles. He plans on going to college to play football and after graduating, to be a teacher and coach football.
