Butcher gives presentation at January Wayside Garden Club

January 28, 2014

Ten members were present at the January 16 meeting of the Wayside Garden Club.

The evening’s program “Companion Gardening” was presented by Tim Butcher, Environmental Health and Safety Program Coordinator at Columbus State Community College. He focused on what he called a “Three Sisters” garden. This method involves planting corn first, followed in succession by beans and then squash. Tim provided a handout that spelled out the specific details along with butternut squash seeds. He also provided a list of companion plants and antagonists. Members found the presentation to be very informative and several plan to try the plan this coming year.

After the presentation the Treasurer’s and Committee reports were made.

Velma Kunze’s floral arrangement was then critiqued by members using OAGC Handbook Criteria.

After adjournment members enjoyed refreshments provided by Co-Hostesses Kathy Linstedt and Judy Beachy.

Reminder: Bring glassware, metal, wood, etc. to make garden art at the February meeting. You will also need something to create a “base” for your artwork.
