Daughters of Union Veterans hold February meeting

The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Tent 91, Galion, met for its regular meeting Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the home of Lois Rinehart. President Cathy Brown was in charge of the meeting.


Communications included an invitation to the Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by McLaughlin Camp 12 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; a note of well wishes from Dorothea Lofquist, a veteran residing at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.


It was reported that Mary Coleman, Ohio Department President, fell and broke her hip. She is recuperating in a nursing home. A card was signed by all in attendance to be sent to her.


Relief report consisted of: 3 flowers for deceased, 19 personal visits, 144 cheer cards sent and 220 volunteer hours.


Discussion was brought up about the Ohio Department Convention to be held in June. We need to start planning our part of the program activities.


A quiz about the US Capital Building in Washington D.C., was held for the Good of the Order. Mystery gift was won by Cathy Brown. Refreshments were served by Judy Sanders.


Following the meeting, officer and committee report forms were passed out. Reports were completed and ready to send to corresponding department officers.


Next meeting will be held March 4, 2014, at the home of Lois Rinehart. Melanie Baker will serve as hostess.
