Man charged in setting fire to home, property

UPDATE 03.03.14 - Curtis Greenwalt, Jr., has been charged with Aggravated Arson and Carrying a Concealed Weapon in conjunction with the house fire at 4900 Road 25, Marengo on Saturday, March 1, 2014. The home belongs to Greenwalt’s estranged wife.

Saturday, March 1, 2014 - An early morning blaze has destroyed a home and accompanying structures on County Road 25.

At approximately 5 a.m. Saturday morning emergency responders were called to 4900 CR 25, Cardington. According to firefighters on the scene, upon arrival, the structures were fully involved and a defensive attack was used.

The fire completely destroyed the home, detached garage and a small barn structure located on the property.

The occupants escaped and no injuries were reported.

Multiple units from Big Walnut Joint Fire District, Morrow County EMS and Morrow County Sheriff’s department responded to the scene. In addition to Big Walnut, Cardington, Mt. Gilead, Porter Kingston, Johnsville, and Ashley fire departments assisted as well.

The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
