The Mount Gilead girls cruised to a first-place finish at the Ridgedale Invitational on Saturday, scoring 155.5 points to outdistance second-place Northmor, who finished with 97. Also locally, Highland tied for fifth with 60.
Mount Gilead won nine events in the meet, including three of the four relays. They took the 3200 relay in 10:28.3, the 800 relay in 1:58.4 and the 1600 relay in 4:14.1, which set a new meet record.
Both Rachel Bush and Jenna Shipman won two individual events. Bush took the pole vault by clearing 7’6” and also won the 300 hurdles in 48.97. Shipman was first in the 800 in 2:32.9 and took the long jump with an effort of 16’0.5”. Also, Olivia Brewer won the 100 in 13.35 and Taryn Chapman took the 400 in 1:01.9.
The Knights picked up a pair of wins, as Kyndall Williams claimed the discus with a heave of 107’9.5” and Tia Downard finished first in the 200 with a time of 28.6.
Highland was paced by Lydia Morgan, who won the 100 hurdles in 17.53.
In the boys’ meet, Highland barely finished second to North Union by a 118-116 margin. Mount Gilead claimed fourth place in the meet with 85, while Northmor was seventh with 36.
Highland won the 3200 relay in 8:32 and also took first in three individual events. Logan Ebersole took first in the 1600 in 4:47, while Kyle Minyo won the 300 hurdles in 42.7 and Kevin Jones claimed the 800 in 2:05.2.
Mount Gilead took first in the 1600 relay in 3:40.2, while Joseph Elson added a first place finish in the 400 in 52.5. While the Northmor boys’ didn’t win any events, they did place highly in the high jump, as James Walker tied for second place.
In a Tuesday tri meet, the Highland girls topped Centerburg and Utica, finishing with 69.5 points to finish 15 in front of the Trojans.
The Lady Scots won eight events in the day’s action, including three of the relays. Jenna Brown, Katie Davies, Meg Mitchell and Hannah Lucius won the 800 relay in 2:05.7; while Katie Lloyd, Lucius, Brown and Mitchell took the 400 relay in 58.4 and Kayla Davies, Lloyd, Laura Spearman and Mitchell won the 1600 relay in 4:54.6.
Lydia Morgan took first in both the 100 hurdles (18.9) and 300 hurdles (51.1); while Kaley Santille topped the field in the high jump with a leap of 4’4” and won the long jump at 12’. Also, Nichole Carter won the shot with an effort of 30’.
In the boys’ meet, Centerburg won with 66 points, while Highland took second with 58 and Utica scored 36.
The Scots won the 3200 relay as Logan Ebersole, James Hubbard, Kevin Jones and Josh Irvin finished in 8:46. Ebersole, Hubbard and Jones were later joined by Kyle Minyo to win the 1600 relay in 3:41. Also, Alex Mason, Garrett Mentzer, Andrew Davis and Tyler Dudgeon won the 400 relay in 49.8. Also, Josh Irvin took both the 800 (2:11.3) and 3200 (11:08), while Dudgeon finished first in the long jump at 17’.
