To the Editor,
I know first-hand the value of the Career Center. Since its inception in the early 70’s the Tri-Rivers Career Center has been devoted in its goal of providing a trained workforce to Marion and the surrounding counties. Every one of us, whether we are in our 20’s or in our sixties, are in need of the services of the students trained at Tri-Rivers. At some time in our lives we will need a nurse, a mechanic, a plumber, an electrician, and other skilled services. Having a training center that educates our youth and adults in careers that will be of service to us is valuable. Also, let’s not forget the need of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’S), firefighters, or a law enforcement officer. These three critical professions are also part of the training offered at the Career Center.
Is Tri-Rivers looking to the future? Yes!! The career Center has invested in technology that meets the needs of the workforce. With the cooperation of Marion Tech, OSU Marion, Honda, Lincoln Electric and others, the school has added higher levels of technology training in robotics and advanced manufacturing. All of the careers mentioned, and more, are designed to serve the Marion Community and to train youth and adults in the fields needed now and in the future.
School levies are inevitable. Just like every family, we constantly need to find ways to cut back and to find ways to add income to meet the growing costs in our society. Tri-Rivers is no different. They have clearly shown they have cut back costs by cutting staff, salaries, and by partnering with local companies to meet the training needs now and in the future. The district is operating at the lowest salary costs of all the 49 career centers in the state. Tri-Rivers Career Center is asking the public to renew an existing operating levy (at no increase in cost to the taxpayer) and to pass a levy that replaces an existing operating levy (at a minimal increase to tax payers).
All of us want value for every dollar spent. We want well trained nurses, plumbers, electricians, mechanics, and other services. We also know we need a well educated workforce for the jobs of the 21st century. Tri-Rivers – A great deal for your dollar!!!!
