It was a fairy tale event, lost in far away fantasies and your favorite childhood “happily ever after” stories come to life last week.
The Mount Gilead Park Ave Elementary after school program, The Bee Hive, brought to the stage various fairy tales for family and friends to enjoy. Each classroom was assigned a childhood story and the students used their creative talents and artistic skills to bring the story to life.
During the after school fairy tale teaching segment, students read various parts of familiar stories, looked at some different “twisted” versions and then created both writing and art projects to bring the stories to life.
The after school program is available to students in kindergarten through fifth grade and offers academic and enrichment curriculum focusing on homework assistance, tutoring and project based learning. Tabitha Wilburn, program coordinator for the program praised the students for their outstanding performances.
“I am so proud of our students, they work hard and have fun, and today they were able to share their favorite stories in Once Upon a Time, a Fairy Tale event,” she said.
The after school program will continue over the summer. For more information contact Wilburn at the school 419-946-5736 ext 3161.
