Cardington youngsters enjoy Track and Field Day

May 27, 2014

Cardington students in grades 3-6 took advantage of nice weather to take part in Track and Field Day on Friday.

Led by physical education teacher Joel Nichols, the students opened the day with field events in the morning, taking part in activities ranging from the long jump to a softball throw and hula hoop contest.

Then, starting at 11 a.m., they moved into running events, competing in sprints and distance races (with older grades having longer races), as well as a sack race and three-legged race. The day then concluded with events such as a class relay race and tug of war challenge.

Lunch also was served at the track for students in this, the fourth year that Cardington has had a track and field day.

“This has been the best year because we’ve had eighth grade volunteers helping out and they’re doing an awesome job,” said Nichols, who also noted that recent Cardington graduate Kianna Sedlacek also helped out in running the event.

Nichols added that a lot of people did a nice job helping things run smoothly. He stated that the PTO and Nicole Hiett did a wonderful job helping with lunch and that Lori Vance, Dionne Lawson and Michelle Walker helped with announcing and providing certificates for place-winners.
