Cardington FCCLA lend a hand at homeless shelter

June 10, 2014

Recently, members of the Cardington FCCLA took a trip that all of them will look back on fondly because they helped make a difference. They traveled to Faith Mission, a Columbus homeless shelter.

The group was taken on a tour of the facility and informed of what services are available for the homeless, besides providing food and housing. Counselors help clients work on goals of gaining employment or housing, resolving issues, etc. Afterwards, the group split up. Half worked in the kitchen to prepare and serve lunch as well as help clean, and the other half were taken to the donation center to help sort and organize items that the shelter had received. Much was accomplished in both areas.

“This trip is one of two annual trips members earn each year based on their points earned from participation all year,” said Angie Bush, advisor to the group. “It is a very eye-opening experience for the students. A good discussion always follows with the group on the way home.”
