Donna Kill, Cardington-Lincoln seventh grade Science teacher, was guest speaker when members of Jenkins-Vaughan Auxiliary Unit 97 of the American Legion met in regular session on May 20.
Kill, who is co-director of the seventh grade Washington D C Trip, was present to review the class trip in 2013 when students laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Korean War Memorial. The wreath created by Unit 97 member Shirley Dendinger, was laid at the Vietnam Wall.
Describing her experience on the trip and laying the wreath was Sage Brannon, now an eighth grade student. She is also a junior member of Unit 97. Sage and Kill thanked the unit for their help by making and sending the wreath.
Kill said there was no trip this year but the trips will resume next year when eighth grade students will take the journey. She explained the venture suits the eighth grade curriculum better.
President Amy Carroll and Chaplain Esther Cellan, conducted a Memorial Service to honor deceased member Nancy Barber.
It was reported there are 106 paid memberships in the unit and that includes the junior membership. The goal was 129.
Clara McClenathan, community service chairman, has filed her reports with the department.
Scholarship chairman Shirley Robinson said she has received one application for the $500 auxiliary scholarship.
Under communications, a thank you has been received from the Cardington Beauti-fication Committee for the financial contribution.
Secretary Marilyn Spires- Pierotti announced that she is resigning as secretary of the unit. Second Vice President, Evelyn Long, also announced that she would not seek that office next year.
The name of Janet Ruggles was drawn following the dime march and she was not present.
