Whetstone serves community

July 8, 2014

Hello, my name is Petr and I am Morrow DD.

I was born in Russia and moved to the United States in 2003. I have been at Whetstone since 2009. Russian is my native language and I still speak Russian at home with my Mother and Father but I have learned and understand most conversational English. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding what is being said to me and I need things to be rephrased.

Even with my cultural and language barriers I have been able to learn many new jobs such as labeling bottles for Lubrication Specialties, how to properly handle and shred confidential documents, and I am learning about custodial care of a facility. I have recently become part of the lawn care crew and I do a good job making jewelry with more complex patterns and using various stringing techniques. Whetstone’s transportation staff is helping me to learn about cultural social media such as Facebook and how to search the internet for information of interest to me.

I am learning to recognize that other people have needs and am learning how I may help them to lessen their burden and become an individual that can impact my community in a positive manner through my words and actions.

I enjoy playing Bingo with my peers, playing tennis with my friends, and just hanging out with staff. I enjoy my days at Whetstone and the many opportunities and relationships that I have gained through my employment here.
